Great thread. Reminds me when myself and HuntingDan (old server) saved a elk in the Blackfoot that had her rear legs caught in a barbed wire fence.

Didn't anyone tell you that as a hunter your not supposed to do compassionate things like save animals? You're giving "big, bad, animal hating and killing" hunters a bad name. :scared0018:

Kudos to the guys in the video.

Saved a calf elk a few years back south of Beaverlodge.... Elmworth area. Somehow got behind a page wire bison pasture. Had to be a few days old and how it got in there is anybodys guess, but his mommy was waiting on the otherside. Opened the gate on the corner and chased him out, little sucker could run like lightening alright, met up with his momma and they high tailed it into the bush thats the last I seen of em.

Weird the way it went back. Could be it felt safe like they said but I'm thinkin' her calf went through and she didn't want to leave.

I never even thought of that. I figured she ran back there to feel safe.

I'm weird that way :confused0024:

Coulda been one of those mud things and she just wanted a spa day :happy0034:

Or it was one of those healing mud baths and she was recovering from a 100 yrd bow "miss"

I found a live calf elk once with her head wedged between two trees. I got her out and propped her up. Seemed her back end was paralysed, lots of striking power on the front though. Her mother stuck around for a couple of days and then left. Kind of sad to see,I ended up putting the elk down. Another time I found a yearling steer like that, only this time there was no harm done other than one very hungry animal.
