the deer have been hitting our field pretty hard the past couple weeks but this weekend topped the charts. Counted 82 deer in our 2nd year alfalfa last night. its only about a 70ac field. Its a pretty cool site to see. too dark for pictures unfortunately. but this guy was is still carrying around his gear.

Maybe the bigger bucks have shed already. I always thought they were the first to drop.

Good on you, your field is probably saving a lot of those deer.

The OP was made 3 hours ago......talks about the past couple weeks................and still carrying gear around....................which is not something you would say in Oct.

One reason deer do well in agricultural areas. That extra nutrition may make or break them surviving the winter. Remember that when you bitch about landowner tags. :D

Spent half of Saturday visiting haunts on foot, everything in my areas are still packing the head gear. Going to be a few more weeks before I head back out.

yeah the pic is from last fall, the time is actually reversed on that camera the pic was from 3:30 AM in oct. Purpose was just to show the deer.
Theres lots of snow in the fields still although the warm weather the last two weeks has thinned it down on the hilltops. They are still doing lots of digging to get to the greens.

I have heard lots of different reasons for the timing of shedding. Size, Age, Birthday, weather conditions, animal's condition.... the deer are probably the only ones who really know.
