To easy....perch. That's a 6" blade on that knife, that puts the perch in the 12-13" mark..ie. A nice one. Can't be pike cause the Filleting does not have the length it needs besides it would not be a nice one, or mentioning within 2 hours of Calgary, any other species would also be to small to mention..so perch it is! Or not...but i'm all in regardless!

BTW...cool post idea. Well done!

Key word being "keeper" and with respect to the length of the knife.

BeeGuy
01-28-2013, 06:46 PM
Blade is 7 1/4" long.

Blade is 7 1/4" long.

Cool....really nice perch! Would still be to small to be worth mentioning if it was any other species.....let it ride!

Walleye - I would have guessed except its too small to be legal under most circumstances so I gotta go with Jumbo Perch.

Definitely not a trout or whitefish ........

GOTTA BE A JUMBO PERCH

yum

I don't catch nor keep allot of whites but it looks exactly like a small walleye fillet (the shape and the red meat along the center-line) - perch tend to be very similar in form as both are species of the same family.

The discolored meat, when I've filleted a white, is more brownish and the meat a different "whiter" shade from what I remember.

Also the shape, chest cavity etc.... definitely look like a perch/walleye family.

Just a theory I guess ......

If that knife is over 12" tip to butt - the perch was 14" - so a SUPER JUMBO HUMPY.

A couple of the places BEEGUY likes to hide and fish also hold some extremely large perch but nobody targets them. I have a theory about that too.

If I'm correct - I'm looking cool - If I'm wrong on both accounts then life goes on.

100% a bull trout fillet.

Definately an older fish with all the red meat against the skin. that would be a great perch or a decent rm white. I'm going w/ rocky mountain whitefish

100% lake white, and if you cut that red fat out they make a pretty tasty battered fish.

I joke.

It was actually not bad. Haven't had any fish from Ghost that were bad however.

I think the cold water helps them stay tasty.

I won't be targeting them for the table, but now know what to expect.

Yum!

In other news...

We had fish tacos for dinner.

Chipotle fried RMWF with homemade tomato/avacado salsa, Yucatan pumpkin seed sauce on a corn tortilla.

I had to stay pretty tight lipped to avoid ruining the surprise that it was a sucker so not I will comment. I am quite surprised at how the fillets look. I thought they would be softer and gross. Pretty cool that they held together so nicely for a good fish fry.
