If you look at most american icefishing sites they seem to be all about fishing it, so there must be something to it...

It is great, but it is an unusually shaped body of water. There is structure that holds fish a good distance from shore. If your friend fishes it often He'll know all about it.

You'll love it.

Don't hesitate just go!!
Lake of the woods IS an amazing lake. I worked on a few island cabins there.
We would ice fish on our lunch breaks and after work. If your friend knows the lake it willl be great.

An amazing area. Don't forget muskie as well.

The area is saturated with lakes and has amazing fishing. If you have a chance to go, do it!

Oh and if you havent already had some....... Crappie are an amazing eating fish.
Delicate mouth so gentle with them or you will end up with lips on your hook and no fish.

Its a great time thats for sure. We use rigs normally used for walleye ..but for whitefish, lol. No wireworms required there for whites...

Another must do... is ice fish the red river for big greenbacks!! Man do i miss manitoba fishing.

Fished it this summer by Platford Landing, but used to ice fish the area regularly at my cabin at Middle Lake in the late 70's early 80's. Your friend will know the lake- just north of Kenora and connected by water.

We mostly targeted pike and walleye.
