Tracks look suspisiously distressed...a possible size 9 in progress....please get your buddy to place a live round across the pad as to properly gauge the size like a pro...and resubmit the photo. 22lr should do it justice....:)chain

Funny enough until you have kids in the yard. I live north of hyw. 16 on about the same RR and we have seen 2 young cats in the past 5 years.

Wonderful, so I'm not the only one who believes in a reclusive variety of miniature mountain lion :)

On a more serious note, yes there are cougars in the area. Hasting lake has a lot of bush for the cats to play in, and not too far from the Blackfoot, and ministick-more bush.

I am positive I saw a lynx many years ago out on 510 late at night, like 20 yrs ago.

That's the biggest back step in the history of mankind.

Just reference the size of the step and the cedar twigs and it looks way too small to be a cougar. Too bad the guy didn't put his footprint beside it.

That's not a step. It's 3'x5' cement landing. That and he saw it.

Well, I honestly thought the pic was a zoomed in shot on a stair tread like the one below it which is commonly 8" or so. My perspective is all off then...kind of a trick photo. It obviously a lion if he saw it then, good enough for me.:):) I cant help think its much out his spots thou... chain

Well someone has got to say it. Release the dogs an let's see what happens. There should be horses going thru fences everywhere. Seems I reme er something about srd trying to catch one a couple years ago in that area.

The print does look small to me but I wouldnt say house cat small (a house cats print is no larger than a quarter) but a small cougar is a possibility. Crazy to think it would sit on his landing!!

Few years back my dad seen a cougar on the Whitemud by Snow Valley....this was in the middle of the night as he works a night shift.
Only a few years before that F&W shot one treed in a back yard just off 104 ave and Groat Rd.

About 5years ago, a neighbor of my inlaws had one of his horses killed and F&W said that it was from a cougar. This was on RR210 across the road from Elk Island Park. I hunt the area and haven't seen or got one on trailcam, but I believe they're around.
Also heard a story (don't know if it's fully true though) that a cougar stole a chicken off the side tray of a guy's bbq as he was preheating bbq in strathcona county a couple years back. Seems far fetched, but you never know.

I know that F&W say there are a few cougars in the Blackfoot reserve and Elk Island. I believe there's cougars around. Hopefully I never meet up with one walking to my stand in the dark!

There are definetly cougars in the Ardrossan area and further east. My brother used to own a 20 acre piece just west of RR#192 about 8 K's south of Hiway 16. About three years ago his neighbor to the west caught one on a security camera crusing thru his yard. He had wondered what was upsetting his horses the previous few nights.

What about a lynx?

The bunny population is pretty good in urban areas this year?

The father in law used to live on the Whitemud and RR233... Some of the neighbours had dogs attacked( could be yotes) but a couple others had cougar tracks in the yards... I believe they are around.

How wide is a cougar track?

bigbuck19

This is from a big cat (337) I've seen him and his tracks all over the property.. That's 2 3/4 for size comparison. Could be a smaller cat, not house cat size though..

maybe have your bud put a shot shell on the same spot and then we can put the photos side by side. Looks small but the steps could be deceiving .

A young guy I know is 18 and wound up having shall we say "intimate relations" with a 39 year old woman. He felt bad about it later, but sometimes when a cougar attacks, there's nothing you can do.... sorry, I couldn't resist....
