Looks like some good work, I really like how you did the Kudo. Hard to get a picture to not look funny but that Kudo has the "he's watching you" look to it.

Rich, we might have to get those mounts for our booth at the show in Edmonton in March. It would saves us a lot of work hauling heads in an out :angry3:
I just sent the link for Guy to have a look.
Very well done, great animals and great work. Perfect!

Looks great. I really like the natural color of the horns. Especially on th Kudu. I don't understand why so many African mounts have the horns painted black? Any input on that Curtis?

Not exactly sure on that. I am not sure if most guys paint or rub down with an oil which really makes the color pop and appear darker. These were just cleaned with water and a few touch up spots with paint

It's a TOAD!
He was pretty much average for the area. If I remember he is 14 1/2 or 151/2 inches long. We did see a couple that were pushing over 17" in Guys area.

Super trophies and great mounts!! What is the length of your kudu? That bushbuck is really nice and heavy.

Now he is a giant. He is an eastern cape kudu the smallest of the family yet he stretches over 55"!last I heard from Guy he should be top 3 all time for eastern cape kudu.
And yes he is spectacular, Curtis has done a fabulous job. This big bull was rutted up and nothing but mud, ticks and scars when I hammered him, I never knew he was so pretty.

Really? He looks bigger to me. Mine was almost 16. I could have sworn this one is bigger. Great trophy. Such a gorgeous little animal. The size of their feet shocked me.

I would have figured bigger as well Daryl. Mine went just a bit over 15 1/2" and thought Rich's would have been closer to 17"
There was a guy a couple weeks before us that killed a 19". It was massive!
I think they are one of the prettiest animals in africa along with the Nyala. I plan on a wall pedestal with the front half of my Nyala for a mount just to get all the colors in.
Rich, at 55 " for a southern Kudu you did fantastic. Congrats. Do you have a link to the hunt report that you could throw up on here again to relive it all?

Rich, here is a pic of your Kudu's brothers, Guy got a pic of. And he got this pic on a trail cam of a buster of a bush buck.
I hope to find them in August when I get back over there.

When the bush buck starts to look more like a Nyala, then you better shoot!! Nice mounts!!

Very nice work. Interesting the kudu doesn't have the typical "pinkish" inner ear colors? Usually the first thing ones sees when hunting them! - they stick out like 2 little flags in the thick bush they typically habitate.

According to all the reference photos I studied, not every kudu is the same. Some have lighter ears than others some darker. I chose the not so light colors. Dont worry the inner ears have their spots as shown in the reference pics I studied and do resemble some of the kudu I looked at

Great animals and great work Curtis sure makes it easy to want to bring them home to the people we know and trust rather than have them done in africa!

only the cows and young calves had the bright pink clownish hue to their ears. This fellow didn't whether from dirt or coloration so I prefer him that way.
