Just get ready, leave early and get on the ice wherever.
Perfect moon and perfect weather, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect.
So no excuses, just go go go!!!!!

Ice warning for south of cowtown,,, ice lost 4 inches in a week, getting softer. Ice is rising as it fissures. Walk dont drive. If you want to chance driving, use extreme caution or keep in the shallows.

Would have pics if dad didnt clean the fish already,,, are pics of fillets ok?

ice here is good still, just a bit loud in the evening when it cools. fishing very slow though, took a friend Flygirrl out and she got her biggest walleye yet, I got lots of hammerhandles, a couple dinks and an 8 pound pike. skinny moon and chinook always brings things to a slowdown around this neck of the woods. dont care, I still fish anyways :sHa_shakeshout:

Yup, open water on a couple southern lakes. Enough water the geese can swim. When in doubt don't drive. Id say its only sketchy on the really shallow lakes, just watch the edges on the bigger lakes, especially later in the afternoon.

Me too! Could almost wear a tshirt, any warmer and the patterns start to run though!

I found the ice, it was at the bottom of my cactus juice! :)

don't let a couple of days of nice weather fool you. we'll be on the ice at least till the end of march.

Ice is always in flux and down south here it has been more thaan a couple of days of warm temps, alberta weather is not all about edmonton ya know! We will have ice alright but it's becoming spring ice down south, just use caution.

i have to agree with you on that one. been a little jealous of you guys down south because of the lake access youv'e had with less snow. even 1/2 hour south of edm. and theres less snow. i imagine that some southern ice diehards will be heading north in the near future.
one plus about edm. is that we can shore fish the nsr all winter.

Enough open water to cast a spoon today. About a 500 metre by 100 metre open section on one of the lakes i frequent. About 100 ducks and geese on it, definitely sounding like spring. Same spot had 17'' of ice 2 weeks ago, be safe down south, watch for thin spots...

Can you tell us what lake this was? This is obviously a huge safety concern as a few cold days could put a thin layer of Ice over that open spot and turn it into a death trap.

Nice pics everyone, yesterday was a great day on the ice. Started off slow, but picked up near the end of the day.

Iced my PB pike, 38 inches. Skinny as heck, way thinner than the 37 I pulled out a few weeks ago.

Good to hear, I'm up north working but can't wait to hit Clear again on my days off. I'm thinking my first overnight trip to a couple lakes in the area.

More than an isolated event around Lethbridge right now, of the 4 lakes i fished the past few days 3 had open water. Looking at the forecast, it won't be re-freezing anytime soon so i'm not worried about anyone driving or walking into trouble. Just be careful if you're fishing any of the lakes/sloughs east of the city. I love finding the first open water, so much better than staring down a 10'' hole....

Perfect conditions for major ice expansion, fissuring and heaves,, overnight temps dont help much either plus longer daylight/sun hours.
