It was a busy year for trips this past year. 2 week long visits to our fly-in cabin in Northern Sask and 4 horse assisted hunting trips.
Caught lots of fish up north and once again had some memorable moments with my girls! Spring trip included 3 buddies, my cousin and my youngest daughter. With a bunch of guys and one young girl it was necessary to have a swear cup to keep the boys foul language in check!! 1 loonie/swear......she made a killing!!
The summer trip was super relaxing. I had both my girls, my good friend Sheridan and his dog and girlfriend.........was that politically correct to put the dog ahead of the girlfriend in a sentence, oops!
Made the long trek (5 portages with canoes) down to a spot where there are walleye. Did well there and it was a beautiful day.
Next came the hunting trips.
1. Early Sept Sheep hunt. No legal rams but saw lots of lambs, ewes and young rams.
Weather was hot so it made climbing pretty brutal but camping was great.
2. BC hunter hosted goat hunt. A real adventurous and gruelling trip but I got a respectable Billy! Slept out over night on the mountain after harvesting my goat as it got too late for a down climb.
3. Elk hunt/Raffle trip. This was a great 9 days spent with good friend as well as making some new friends. Dwayne and Sue won a horse assisted hunting trip which we (Horizon Parent Society) raffled off last spring. They were awesome to camp and hunt with and as a group we harvested a decent bull elk and bull moose. Weather turned bad on day 7 so we pulled out 2 days later due to fears I would not get the wagon out if the snow got any deeper.
Thanks again to the 2 of them for being such gracious winners and campmates!!
4. 3 day elk hunt. Went back in with the wagon to pick up the remains of camp which we left behind after leaving in the snow. Had a great few days with Highcountry harvesting a 6x6 bull elk. Personally I passed on a very respectable Whitie. I was headed down the valley after a herd of elk and we more or less stumbled on to each other, I had plenty of opportunity to shoot him but my heart was set on the elk so I passed.
