When the sun is shining, the wind is soft, and it is a Friday afternoon, there is fishing to be had. This was the case for a buddy of mine (Guitarplayingfish) and myself as we loaded up our fly fishing gear in the middle of winter; you have to love Southern Alberta. It was a short drive to the fishing spot and we made good time getting there. We took our time along the river as we picked through floating ice chunks, fast flowing rapids, and muddy cut banks. The first hour of casting proved to be futile. However, it was such a beautiful day that it was a blessing just to be outside. After two or three dozen casts, multiple fishing holes, a couple of new flies we finally found the spot we had been searching for. The GoPro turned on and so did our senses as we began searching for the hungry fish. After a short while, we finally had a hit!

Unfortunately, the fish spit the hook. This happened a number of times until this fella' decided to make an appearance.

Almost as soon as we put the beautiful rainbow back into the water, a whitefish joined the party!

These were the only two fish pulled out of the water that day and we had a blast doing it.

Can't wait to get back into the truck, load up the gear, slap on some waders and catch some fish.

Have a good weekend everyone and get outside!
