decided to try a new lake today for burbot. never targeted them on a lake before. what a great day. mild weather, clear skies and not even a breeze. my fellow ao member and i didn't get the monster that we were hopeing for but between us we got about a dozen and kept 3 for the fish fry on the lake. the pics are of another buddy beside us.
my personall chef deep fried some homestyle fries and the burbot and lake trout were done in uncle bucks fish batter.
thanks for the great day day j-r. you can cook for me anytime.

Better fishing them during the night like catfish?

I've never fished for them but I want to this year.

Fish em just like you would pike. Glow jig with smelt. Bounce it on the bottom a few times then come up just a bit. They don't really bite more like they suck the bait in, so you have to pay close attention to your rod. difficult at times to catch em on tip ups.

i was thinking of you when i took that pic. i always bring a small fireball along when ice fishing in case it gets cold and i need to take the chill off (or if it gets too warm, sunny, cloudy, windy, calm,......... lol)

While I was in Alberta for the past 2 weeks I got out to do afew days of ice fishing. But when I read the regs, and the way I understood them is that burbot was closed Prov wide as of Feb 1.....

hi guys i am quite interested in catching burbot, i have caught a few by accident in my younger years and tossed them back. I am eager to catch some now and willing to travel around southern to catch some. Can you guys give me some tips on what rigs and bait to hook a few, and possibly some lakes too try in the south region.
Thanks

Always wondered what burbot taste like, turns out they are AKA Cusk - delicious. Never caught one personally, now it's on the list

Just be aware, many lakes have 0 retention right now.
