Shore/Wade fishing in Belize

Hey guys, I'm heading to Belize in a week, can't wait! Just wondering if anyone has experience with fishing down there. I'm going around Dangriga and wouldn't mind buying a rod and some lures so I can put down the Corona and take a few casts at will. My friends down there also have a boat, so gonna be able to be mobile, but they're not fisherpeople so I'll need to do my own homework, and don't feel like forking out for a guide.

Tips for what type of setup are appreciated!
