When to take shack off gull?

I have a light shack on gull...east side.....when should i take it off?

How is the ice?

Ice is still pretty good. Signs say April they have to be off which by then will have probably sunken by then. I would say in a week or so I would be taking mine off and using some other more portable means of shelter. Take care

I'd say pretty soon while you can get your truck and trailer on dont be the guy who leaves it on .

Moved our shack last Friday. 31 inches of ice in new spot compared to 24 in old spot. Shacks must be off by April 17. Can,t imagine that much ice melting enough to make it unsafe in at least a month. I really am counting on fishing for a month yet. Sure hope I,m not wrong.

Are you ? Most lakes close mar 31 only a handful that close later unless wy up north . Unsure of your location but you best check the regulations .http://www.albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/

Large sign on approach to lake says ice fishing shacks must be removed by April 17. I will take a picture of it next time I am out and post it if I can.

Good for the sign , what do the regulations say . The online regulations are always updated if there's change mi provided the link earlier might be worth checking unsure of what the fine would be for fishing out of season , but to take the 2 minutes to check would be well worth your time to check it out . Unless you like paying fines .

This is why I think guys should be forced to register there shanty a , shacks trailers etc . You don't get the off the government does leaves it along the shore your billed . I forget who I was talking to but they were saying Alberta environment was burning hem down if they were left after a certain day you were warned .

Just got off gull 2 hours ago. Best ice i've seen on any lake this year. 30" of ice and clear ice. Very little white. The fishing however was a different story. Those whites sure got my card

Maybe you should read them over. The only thing the regs say about ice shacks is to remove them before spring breakup. If your gonna preach about the regs, at least know what they say...:rolleye2:

Careful measurement of ice thickness is important – always test ice
conditions. Never walk on ice that is less than 10 cm (4 in.) thick and
do not drive on ice that is less than 30 cm (12 in.) thick. Beware of
ice near the inlets or outlets of streams. Always be extra cautious of
ice on rivers and streams. Ice can vary in thickness and in strength
from area to area because of temperature, water current, springs, snow
cover and time of year. Do not drive fast, or follow closely behind
or park near another vehicle on the ice. Ask someone who knows the
area about ice conditions and places to avoid. Use caution and stay
away from aeration sites. Anglers are encouraged not to fish near
aerators for their safety and to prevent lines tangling the units and

The sign on the lake says April, the season may be closed for fishing, but that has nothing to do with a shack sitting on the lake if your not fishing from it...

Not quite sure how that has anything to do with what I said . I said who cares what a sign says , to refer to the regulations . Online version being the most updated copy . I must be on cheap glue or something but knowing the regulations say for them be to off before break up . But apparently common sence isn't so common . Or perhaps my thinking is fowl .

Why wait until last minute , once the seasons closed why leave it there .

Gull Lake
Apr. 1 to May 14 and Nov. 1 to Dec. 10 – CLOSED

Travers Reserviour
Mar. 16 to May 31 – CLOSED

Lesser Slave Lake
Apr. 1 to May 14 – CLOSED

There are the 3 closeting dates in the province . I think if you notice the ice is getting unsafe best haul it off when you see that rather than to late . That's what I am preaching . Why expect the government or whoever to take it . And further more this is why I think a registry system would be great for ice fishing shacks . I hope that's clearer for you to understand . Now that I've had to explain my stance further more .

Yeah John, I did read the whole thread. What you posted here doesn't really make much sense, but I think I know what your trying to get at. My point was that the regs mean nothing when it comes to getting shacks off the lake, regardless if the season is closed or not. Shacks at Gull still have to be off by Apr. 17...
