Does anyone know when Kananaskis and spray close for the ice fishing season? Better yet does anyone have any reports on the fishing up there? Been out of the loop a bit lately.... Took a trip to Costa Rica and did a little bill fishing :sHa_shakeshout:

I was out there 2.5 weeks ago. The surface snow was 4-6" with a layer of 3/8-1/2" ice and 6" of flood water slush under that. The ice itself was about 8" thick and there was no clear dark ice to be seen. Since then, we had that last snow dump which would have put more weight on top of the ice.

I had snow shoes on and still kept breaking through to the flood water slush. I was told that since I was there, the water level and ice has dropped several ft.

I would recommend a survival suit, rope, etc. and a minimum of 2 other people in case something happens to 1 of you on the ice.

I was at Spray on Sunday. 2ft clear ice with lots of snow on top. Fishing was not excellent but we didn't get skunked.

Was out there last week. Skunked at upper and lower along with spray. Careful at lower k the ice has collapsed on itself.

Lower K was the one with all the floodwater and slush under the surface snow. It sounds like conditions have worsened since I was there.

Has anyone been to Spray in the last few days? I'm considering heading there tomorrow but will avoid it if it's dangerous.

thanks.

I was out last Saturday and the ice was about 2 feet thick. I'd be more worried about the road than I would about the ice, if that's what you meant by dangerous.

That wasn't what I meant but that's good to know.
Thanks.
