I was at Canadian tire asking about them last week and they said they usually receive them about a week before the old licenses expire.

I am pretty sure the new ones are online on their website though.

It is going to be barbs allowed for this year but could be switched by next season from what I have heard.

I haven't checked the online regs yet so what I heard could be wrong.

I looked up the regs a week or so ago and they r allowing barbed hooks due to the federal govt screw up and they r asking fishermen to continue to use barbless. Personally I will continue to use barbless since we catch and release

Under important changes on page 4.

In 2012, during an amendment of the Alberta Fishery Regulations, 1998,
the Federal government inadvertently removed the provision prohibiting
the use of barbed hooks. This rendered the barbless-only requirement
when angling in Alberta unenforceable. The intent is to restore the
legislation at the earliest opportunity. Until this occurs, anglers are asked
to continue to voluntarily comply with the spirit and intent of the
barbless-only regulation and refrain from the use of barbed hooks
