I was reading a thread from 2010 about electric motor only bodies of water. The links referencing government websites are no longer valid, so I did a bit of googling and found this page:

http://wwwapps2.tc.gc.ca/wwwdocs/Rqs/documents/466.htm?uid=634056843693566250

Which cites legislation from 2008. Anyone know if this is the most current information? If you're aware of more recent documents, please let us know where to find them!

Thanks!

Boating regulations are pretty simple if it has a motor you need your boaters card .

I didn't read everything on the link that you posted but if you're looking for the bodies of water that gas powered motors aren't allowed in Alberta it's in the fishing regs.

Only if its 10 hp or more. I dont know if there is a length restriction of the vessel.

Yes, the question is in reference to the types of motors allowed in certain bodies of water. I checked the online regs and they not very helpful:

Vessel Restrictions

There are a variety of vessel restrictions in effect in Alberta that are administered by Transport Canada. For more information, please consult the federal Vessel Operation Restriction Regulations online at: http://laws.justice.ca

Perhaps the regs in the book are different. laws.justice.ca does not seem to be a valid url either.

With all the questions I had and confusion I ran into trying to answer my own questions, I managed to stumble upon another page(with almost the same url):

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2008-120/

This one I'm gonna say is the most up-to-date version. But again, if anyone reading this knows otherwise, please let us know!

Yes, the question is in reference to the types of motors allowed in certain bodies of water. I checked the online regs and they not very helpful:

"power-driven" means a mode of propulsion provided by a main propelling machinery that is an internal combustion engine or a steam engine. ( propulsion mécanique ) "

"electrical propulsion" means a mode of propulsion provided by a main propelling machinery that is an electric motor powered by electric cells. ( propulsion électrique ) "

For what its worth the legislation that placed these restrictions shown above was repealed last month!

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/C.R.C.,_c._1407/20080417/P1TT3xt3.html

Not sure what this really means and would want clarification before heading out.

Thanks MathewsArcher, this is exactly the kind of thing we need to know about.

Now I'll spend the rest of my day googling the repeal dates/status :sHa_shakeshout:

Did you mean the Schedule 3 excerpt that I posted or the link in the OP?

The link that you provided states, "This document is in force from 2008-04-17 to 2013-02-21" and Schedule 3 states, "Regulations are current to 2013-02-21 and last amended on 2010-10-21." To me that means that Schedule 3 is current.

I think you are correct and that the legislation you posted is correct and current. The schedules were at one time contained in the Boating Restriction Regulations (which were repealed) but are now contained in the Vessel Operation Restriction Regualtions at the link your provided. Thanks for the link btw, the old links are broken as they referrence the repealed regulations.
