Going to be heading out to bc in July or August and want to pull my own boat out and try some salmon fishing...it's a 18 foot so can't be too far from shore anyone know where a good spot to go?? Never did this before so not sure ?

Spent 5 years going in a 1750 lund out of Prince Rupert. What would you like to know?

its 750 km west of Prince George. so about 19 hours from Calgary?

What kinda advice would you give to a guy trying this for the first time??

Don't get your hopes to high. A lot of people don't catch salmon on their first trip.

Two boats and plan on being able to go 3 days out of 5 due to wind / weather.
Really wind dependant. NW is the worst. Fog really can get bad mid aug, but thats when the coho start coming in in larger schools. July can be really slow for salmon. Bottomfish are always around.You need a fully stocked boat ; GPS, VHF Radio etc.

It is easily done with an 18 ft boat. Places like the Lucy islands or melvilles are a short 6-10 km open run. I don't think your going to get to the "good" spots unless your really adventurous.

Cut a deal with Jamie and ask him where the bite is happening the day your going out .They go out every day and tend to have current information.

I usually go out every couple days and target the calmer days. we spend a third of our time "beaching" on the outer islands and do less fishing each year.This year is my 11th year of spending the summer in Rupert.

Go to Prince rupert we did it last year on our 18.5 Crestliner. Ask Jamie lots of ?? he was very very helpful for us. If you can go with a guide for a day and your odds are better. We had a lot of luck and fun on our five day trip, we hired a guide on our 4th day (Jamie helped us with the guide) and picked up a few tips. Make sure you have good electronics I have an HDS8 with the Navionics Gold chip. We will be back this year at least a couple of times. Fishhawk

If you are in need of Gear get a hold of Cornuteo, he has an add in the buy and sell section. I got a lot of gear from him last year at very good $$$$.
