Last trip of the year to Cold. Was Epic! Started off Monday. Broke Trail out past French. The Snow was Deeeep... ended up ripping my Bumper off....lol, 2.5 hrs later we made it to our spot. burned 3/4 Tank of Fuel in 8 km, 4 low in first PINNED!!! we actually turned around, to go fill up as i figured i would of had plenty of gas, i usually always go onto the lake with a full tank, and picked a real bad day to forget... around noon we made it. fishing was pretty slow as to be expected at noon. landed a few by five all over 10lbs. my buddy was getting smaller ones. Punching several holes, and taking a break to find a cell phone lost in the snow(which was found safe under my truck tracks...lol)from 5-7pm the place was hopping, i did well, but my buddy had the honey hole marking roughly 30-40 lakers in his hole at once??? we probably landed 30+ fish between the two of us. Second day we hit the same holes from 7-10ish it was steady we landed i would guess 70-80 fish! i had a school of similar 12lbers that i landed 5 in a row. and probably caught 10 in that range total. Unfortunately i hooked one bad that hit right under the ice right after i released one, he was bleeding bad so chose to keep him...as it turned out most of the legal fish we caught were in this weight range. thought i had a bruiser on, couldn't get him up,big runs! thought i maybe had a 20! turned out i foul hooked a 12lber by the rear fin...awesome fight anyway.it was pretty slow by 11 and our arms were sore so we called it quits. Good Luck to anyone heading out before the end. And take a moment to remember my bumper if you get on my tracks...lol http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/CL012_zpsd18681ed.jpg Poor Truck http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/CL021_zpsc3fc14e7.jpg Rough Trail http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/CL019_zpsdff4409d.jpg http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/CL016_zps4da9417b.jpg http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/CL017_zpsc19879f5.jpg

Awsome pics. Them are some fine fat trout.

Too bad about the bumper. How did you manage to tear it off ? Took bottoming out in a frozen mudhole to take the airdam of my 05 Dodge

Yep gotta get snow tracks for the Argo.

great story and pics. bet you'll invest in some jerry cans for future trips. i'm betting that lost bumber costs more than my entire truck. congrats on those lakers.

You came on from the PP ? Going out thursday but taking the sled to avoid damage. I have a ford not a dodge so wouldn't be a problem!:sHa_sarcasticlol: I know the feeling when everytime you drop the jig and hit a heavy fish , its awesome ! Temps the next few days should compact the snow a bit , thursday is plus 5 with light wind !

Just a big hard snow drift probably 3 feet, that i plowed into with some speed. Went to back out and heard crackin noises... Lol. Those sport bumpers are garbage anyway... I was already planning on getting a aftermarket bush bumper, so not a big loss!

Have jerry cans, just dont bring them to Cold as being that close to town, and have had gas stolen before... going to Peerless or somewhere i definately do as you are a long way from civilization!

Yup from the PP. Lol, for the record two fords followed my path and turned back where we did to go get gas. ;) The only other truck that made it was a blue dodge sport( weird coincidence) driven by a 79 year old guy that pulled up and fished right between us! Lol, wasn't a problem as he didn't have a flasher. We talked with him for a bit, great old boy! He wasn't getting any, just a couple hits, while we were still nailing them! Hope im still out 4x4ing,augering my own holes and ice fishing when im that age!!! Lol

As long as you have decent tires and clearance your ok, the trail is sketchy and kicks you off alot, and its still very posible to get stuck! Make sure you have good shovels. With the warmer temp the snow might compress, yesterday it was just melting the top, leaving powder underneath, the crust makes pretty tough!

Went out broke trail 2years ago to an out of the way spot. Had 2trucks follow our tracks and fish on top of us. No one fishes there ! We got a bunch , they caught a couple. Don't usually stay that late , but will tomorrow !

Love the pics and story. Sorry about your bumper. I'm surprised I didn't lose mine when my vehicle got wedged badly in a snowbank. Good ol new hunter okotoks had to drag me out...twice. lol! At least you caught some sweet fish for your troubles. :p

Great job TL! I saw/heard you plowing through that trail while I was fishing in Long Bay and I was wondering who had the nuts to go first. Thanks for breaking trail, I ended up heading out that way in the afternoon and hauled in a p.b. 18lber in front of Garnett beach.

Lots getting stuck yesterday too. Even hard to walk in that deep snow. There was a ton of people fishing walleyes last night. We had a slow day. Suffering from a headache today. Even wearing sunglasses yesterday , it was so bright and clear , and plus 7 ! Didn't land our first one until 2 and only got 7 total. First spot hadn't been fished but never had a hit so we moved on. Had lots of hits but couldn't keep them on.
