Wal-Mart

They are branded "Optima" not optimal - I'm guessing they are the same? I don't know.

Yes you are correct optima . Have looking for blue top for long time couldn't find a seller, was talking to aguy in vancouver he said battery was 289.00 which is ok I only want a reliable battery . Is this the best optima battery (blue31)?

That would be a series 31, should be the best/biggest of the optima blue's.

Interstate (I use 3 size 29) are fantastic deep cycle batteries - they last forever and take and hold a charge nicely.

Optima use a Spiral Core technology. More active space for charging and discharging.
This was the newest and best about 5 years ago until recently.

AGM Regular and Deep cycle batterys made by Exide have recently hit the
market. They are use a graphite coated plate in them. More plates - more power - quicker to recover- longer stay time .
Check out the Net on these. They are absolutley the best !
Batterys have been basically the same for 50 years until this hit the market.

Canadian Tire sells them this year under their brand name. If you dont like
Can Tire ..... do a rant and then go there and get a battery. Exide makes their batterys and puts the CTC sticker on them .

hope this helps ......

see you on the water .......

A note about Optima blues.

I haven't bought an optima in a while, but a few years ago the consensus was that the Optima deep-cycle blue top (with a "d" prefix for DEEP CYCLE) is the exact same guts as the yellow top, but with different connector options.

Something to keep in mind if you find a cheaper yellow-top that fits the bill. I know when I looked the yellow tops were a bit cheaper.

I have had an Optima blue for about 8 years, used it in the 4x4 first and then in the boat and it is still going strong. Other 2 are over 6 years old, no issues. Had a Atlas sipral wind that last and worked well for 4 years.

I bought a Canadian Tire Spiral wind in Oct 2012 for $179 for the 4x4, it was toast in January. Took it back, over the counter no hassle exchange, rep says they are getting about a 35% failure rate on this model. Got a sealed lead acid with fiberglass mats instead. If they had done refunds I would have got another Optima.

Battery Warehouse and Walmart were always the two cheapest places to find them.

Of the spiral winds I would say Optima is the best of the ones I tried. For lead acid deep cycle, the Nautilis brand have done well for me.

Interesting, my Optimas have all been Blue tops but the Canadian Tire one I bought would be the equivalent, non-deep cycle version of the Red Top and it didn't last 3 months. How long did you get out of your before they rolled belly up because at double the money of a standard battery they need to provide top performance for at least 9 years to be worth the difference in price.
