We went fishing at cow lake today, great day for perch. We must of caught 100 fish, kept 16 decent ones. Lots of little ones about the size of your middle finger. Kind of a cool day but nice to be out fishing.

Thanks for the post Beth. I haven't been to Cow L. since I was a pup many many moons ago. How is it for fishing pressure out that way? Is there lots of boat traffic or just a few fisherman? It use to be great place to go and get away from the yahoos and there would only be a couple of fishermen out there.

I don't recommend going May long weekend when the grads kids get out of school. It was very disheartening to head for the dock morning after arriving to find that our boat was missing. By the clean cut ends of the rope left behind it was obvious it was cut away. Thanks to a decent fellow with a bigger, faster boat we followed the wind direction and made short order of retreiving it from the weeds completely across the lake. I have the machette marks still to remind me to avoid docking the boat but to beach it and tie it off. I even chain and lock the motor to the boat and the boat to something when i have the oppertunity.
What has me going back though was the 5 lb rainbow my son caught one year. And if they aren't biteing the perch are always there.

Every time i've been there i've shared the lake with 20-30 different groups. I've only stopped in on weekends though so maybe during the week its not too bad.

There was about 4 boats in the area of us, and one off in the middle and stayed away from us with water ski's. I think since they introduced the pike the trout is not very easy to get or even if they survive. Dont quote me on that. I know that when they have brood stock they will put in there. Jacks are 1 over 100cm, we didnt catch anything but perch. The biggest was 10 inches and we had 2 like that.

that would be the wrong Cow Lake BBJ. The one by rocky has a different LSD. It would have to be W5. I am not sure where the one you listed is at.

Depends what big is to you? I have heard of PIKE being caught up to 75 cm.

Thats pretty decent if you catch those all day. Your always thinking about catching the last one's big brother.

They have to be big to be kept, its 100 cm size limit for pike.

100 cm is 40 inches. In my opinion those fish should go back to spawn.

Give Cow Lake 10 years, and it will be full of football perch and big pike.
