Hey guys, thought I would start this up as we are starting to pack our bags and head out to the Lodge.

Feel free to post up all your Salmon fishing story's and pictures from all over the coast.

2013 is looking to be a great year at Great Pacific. The Lodge is close to sold out, they have been nailing large Chinook off our dock all winter long and then I got this call today.

20 Minutes south of the Lodge
1 hours worth of fishing
18 Pound Chinook
21 Pound Chinook
26 Pound Chinook
28 Pound Chinook

WOW.. Great early season start.

We are fortunate to have all staff returning for 2013. You will find our guides are the best in the Biz. 10's of thousands of hours worth of experience.
And then of course we put them in the best and safest boats on the water.
24 Foot Skagit Orca
24 Foot Sea Sport
Round that off with Islander reels combined with the Legendary waters of Prince Rupert and BAMM!!! You have yourself the best fishing trip you can lay eyes on.

I look forward to seeing all the A/O members who will be joining us this year. The growth we have seen from this board is just outstanding. I guess the word is getting out about the fantastic time people are having at the Lodge.
Thanks for the support guys. It's really appreciated.

This thread is allways the best thread of the year for me, so dont be shy about posting up all your great pics and story's

Well the fishing in Rupert just keeps going along. Limits for 4 people today on Chinook. Nothing huge. Smallest kept was 20 pounds, Largest kept was 26.

No Halis as the wind was really blowing, Gale warnings in effect, but with so many Islands to hide behind, they got on the Salmon in calm waters.

That's one of the great things about Rupert, There is always a place to hide. In over 200 days of fishing, we have only been stuck at the Lodge once.

More bookings today and I bought 2 new MR3 Islander reels along with all new Chinook rods for all the boats.

Starting to get packed.. Getting really excited!

Still a spot left on the SUPER cheap May deals. We sold 3 of the 4 spots through A/O who else wants in? We would love to have you come up.
Easy to get to, no stupid/expensive/Time wasting ferry's. Or get on a plane and we pick you up at the Airport. If time is a consideration, you can fly out first thing in the AM, we will have you on the water by noon, then you can fly home late on the day of your final day. That's right, no travel days. Lets go fishing!

Ok, we are heading into our 3rd year and it's time to upgrade some gear as well as add new stuff due to the new boat.

I picked up all new Chinook rods today
6-10 1/2 foot TFO's Mooching rod
1-9 foot TFO Mooching rod
2- 10 1/2 foot Garry Loomis casting rods (For the guys that HAVE to use the level winds.)

As well, I ordered 3 new Islander MR3 reels. When I was at Springbrook today, I held the TFO knock off of the Islander MR2. We WILL NOT be switching. Kinda felt a little dirty afterwards.

Great Pacific prides itself on having the best and most reliable equipment. As well, we push the "Sporty" end of fishing. It's no fun playing a Salmon on a 2x4 with chain for a line.

Boats are getting cleaned and prepped for the season. Who can resist fishing out of these luxury machines. 24 feet long, 300 HP Yamaha engines, hard walled cabins, tables inside, FORCED AIR HEATING, no canvas and sitting on life jackets. Fishing how it was meant to be. New Kitchen equipment as my Daughter made me buy her some high end Kitchen aid mixer with promises of cookies, cakes, and pies ALL THE TIME!.

We are bringing in the Executive Chef from one of Calgary's top Golf courses. He will be training our cook in new Appys, upgrading our dinners and helping with Kitchen management.

Bookings are double what they were last year at this time and still tons of lines in the water.

We are really getting geared up for this season. Fish reports have started off with a BANG and the excitement is massive!

Cripes I like fishing the North.

I am heading out a bit early this year due to some hopeful expansion plans. I will be taking the Skagit over to the Charlotte's for some meetings.

Then of course I will be doing some test fishing on the West side. Going to spend a night or 2 on the water, Back to Rupert on Friday and then meet the Alberta outdoorsmen group we have coming in. Full Lodge, nothing but A/O members. Perfect way to kick things off.

Pic below is the pile of new rods just before being packed.. Like a kid in a candy store I tell you.

Got to Rupert today about 1.
All boats are in the water
Water and heat in the Lodge
No serious issues over the winter, lodge is clean.
Moved over 2 half tons full of boxes.
Can't find the key to the tackle shack. Grrrrr
Grass is crazy tall, going to need 3 cuts is my guess.
New boat needs to be outfitted. Cute thing, it's going to be perfect for our needs.

It's 1 am here. I am lying in bed and my back is tight as a drum and my feet ache. Getting up in 4 hours to go fishing! Now where did I put the Advil???

Some amazing halibut and bottom fishing this past week. Anchored up at a new spot and within 1 minute had halibut biting. In next hour it was non stop, fish after fish after fish, all over 40lbs. Ending up keeping 4 between 40 and 60lbs and released 4 up to 80lbs in an hour plus missed a few more. Then quickly ran to a bottom fish spot we have and tagged out on Lingcod and Snapper in 45minutes. Here are some pictures.

Won't find better fishing anywhere on the coast, plus the best boats, and we like to think we are pretty good company as well  Give us a call, have 4 spots left for this summer, won't find better fishing ANYWHERE on the coast.

80lb released

More great fishing! Was out last two days and it was rough both of them so were unable to get to where we wanted to, but stayed close to home and SLAYED as well. Limits of bottomfish first day then second got into limit of Lingcod up to 35lbs and rockfish up the yang, and then salmon fished for 2 hours and went 7 for 10!!!! No big size yet as it is only May, but kept 4 from 10-20lbs. We had A LOT OF FISH, as this picture indicates! :sHa_shakeshout:

Still have a few dates open for 2013, give me a shout asap. Easily best fishing and boats on the whole coast...and you may gain a few pounds when you come as well :D Our fleet of 27-31ft Grady's and Pursuits will make sure you're comfortable everyday. Oh, and the new boat will continue the tradition of being named after my mom as it will be the Ms Heather V...while not original I think my dad's thinking is happy wife, happy life! Still remember the old 19ft bayliner ms heather I and the 21ft Campion Explorer Ms Heather II that we drastically upgraded from in 2009. Fuel bill is depressing now though

Smoked over 250lbs of bottomfish yesterday including a nice 70lb halibut which actually came in under the 126cm limit...so that was a huge bonus! Pics to follow. Ended up with 15 lingcod to 30lbs, 10 snapper, 10 black rockfish, and the 70lb halibut. Today were into over 10 Chinook, and it`s only May...can`t wait for the big runs to show up here in a week or two! :D

I just got off the phone with Advanced Taxidermy. One of our A/O guests is thinking about having his trophy done up.
Prices seemed to be comparable to having a shoulder mount done on a deer.
Not bad for the best Fish taxidermy in the world.

As well, we got talking about the largest Salmon they did last year.
It was not taken near Vancouver Island, not near Port Hardy, not near Rivers Inlett, not near the Queen Charlottes, not near Langara... In fact it was taken right here in the Prince Rupert area by our friends at Eagle point.
It was a 82 pound monster. What's crazy, is that we have bigger fish than that! Got to get them to the boat though.

Shaping up to be a stellar season with 3 Tyeeeeeee pins given out in 2 days. I don't know if I have enough to last the season.

This A/O trip needs to be a annual thing. So many great personalities. Though I have many stories from the trip (and we ain't done yet) I think I will let the guys tell there own. Suffice to say some big fish are being caught and the Lodge enjoyment rate is through the roof.

I think you can look for a A/O derby next year that will have 3 teams of 3 competing for over $10,000 in cash.
Spots are being taken right now, please let me know if you want to be part of this.

I would be interested in an AO derby how would you set this up and would it be limited to your lodge guests only or DIY fishermen that run there own boats like me?
If it is open to non lodge AO members would it be based out of your lodge/Prince Rupert or all west coast Canada?

I have been looking for a reason to try Rupert but Hardy has treated me so well over the last 12 years I find it hard to venture to other places.

And David dam you for posting photos I am on the medeteranian right now and all I can think of is fishing on the west coast!!:angry3:

Mike try the fishing out there, it will blow your mind. Deep sea and especially spear gun fishing with a snorkel or bottle.....

Thinking of salmon fishing while your in the Mediterranean, is like being in africa thinking

about coyote hunting....

Don't get me wrong , the only fishing I do out here is salmon and hali fishing. .. but nothing has come close to fishing in the Mediterranean.

Mike, I believe it would be Lodge guests only. We supply guides and boats. But I would look at own boat packages if one of our guides was aboard. It's in the thinking stage right now.
Worth talking about though. Any other ideas to throw in guys?

 weather is a lil nicer there though for sure. Rainy as hell here.

And tough to leave the best in hardy man! Definitely the most consistent fishery on the west coast! While other places like the charlottes, prince Rupert, hakai, and Campbell river have had spottier fishing with bursts of good and sub par years the past few, we've been lucky enough to have almost everyday the same with being into 20-35 chinook a day (sometimes in only hours) from mid June to mid August every year. Doesn't get any better than that. :D hope to see you up here again soon mike

How can you mention Campbell river in the same sentence as these world class spots?
Campbell had it's time it's been over for a long time.
I will get my current guests that happen to be from and still live in Campbell to comment. There is a reason they came up here for their annual fishing trip. These guys are hard core Salmon guys, they should have a excellent view point on the Subject.

Today saw 3 in the fourtys caught right beside us. We were up tight to the Alaskan border. Our guests smashed fish all day long, but didn't connect on the monsters that inhabit our area.
Tomorrow sees us taking advantage of the weather conditions and heading to a bit of new ground.

Fair enough, but either way the past few years have been sub par for even the afore mentioned locations. Alaska has had absolutely dismal Chinook fishing for the past couple years as well, many attribute this to the changing ocean cycles that are causing better fishing farther south in the states and southern BC whereas fish are bypassing/not returning in good numbers in northern rivers. It's cyclical, as in the 2000's the fishing was dismal in Wash, OR, CA.

Hey Jamie sounds like this year is off to a great start!!
Iam curious how you fish up there?
In Hardy it's 90% anchovies teaser heads.
Wondering if you guys use spoons, plugs, herring teaser heads or cut plug or of course anchovies as well? Also what are typical "fishy" waters/structure up there?

Cheers,
Mike

She was legal 100%. She won't be coming into the boat otherwise. If its real close I lassu the tail and bring them in to get good measurement. Fat and wide.

Sorry its been so long guys, but the Lodge has been going crazy with clients and fish.
Very busy times!
Brief update has 2013 looking like a banner year. Loads of Chinook around and Coho to 15 pounds.
Seasons largest Salmon has been 42 pounds
Smallest Chinook on the top 10 board is 26 pounds.
Lots of Tyee class fish around with some guests releasing 30 pounds in the hope of something bigger.
Hali is easy as always
Weather has been great
Water is calm
Lots of catch and release going on.
Clients have all been great.
Guides are kicking butt

This is your year to book a trip of a lifetime. Call today and lets get you started.
Some great dates left.
Only one full Lodge booking avaiable until August. Take advantage of it and lets chat.

Since i know that Dad doesn't have access to the net right now, i guess i can share the start of a new trip.
I flew back to Calgary for a meeting on Tuesday, i take off for the Lodge in the morning. Only unusual thing about this, is that my Son and Brother will be joining me for 3 days of fishing. That will be 3 generations celebrating Fathers Day. I think its still a surprise for the old guy. Simple flight in the AM will have us at the Loge by 10:30 am. No muss, no fuss, just get on the plane, land and go fishing in the legendary Prince Rupert area.

It's going to be a blast.

Fishing has been nothing short of spectacular over the past few weeks. Chinook limits are coming over the rail by 9-10am most days (that's 8 Chinook in the boat), and halibut has been amazing. Every time we've fished for them we have had to release at least 2 over 60lbs...now released 5 over 100lbs this season already and 12 over the 60lb max. But most days we are limiting out on our halibut between 30-65lbs (the 50" mark give or take). Other day with 2big4u's group limited out on halibut over 45lbs and released a 85 and 110lber.

I'll let the pictures do the talking, but the fishing has been fantastic!

I cant agree more with Dave. The fishing this year has been great.
It's getting better by the day.

We have a top 10 board at the Lodge that is showing the smallest fish being 30 pounds now. And it seems like we just opened!

Hali is stupid easy. Our guests are sorting through fish trying to decide what to keep.

Coho to 14 pounds are hitting the dock on a daily basis

Weather has been outstanding with us hitting 30 degrees at the Lodge this past weekend.

Calm seas, bright sun, loads of fish, fantastic boats, the best guides on the west coast and the friendliest Lodge in all of BC.

As well, we just got a bit easier and cheaper to get to. There are direct flights to Terrace from Calgary! Comfy ride and cheaper than AC.

No full Lodge bookings left for July, but I can put in groups of 3 and 4 here and there. Get in touch and lets get your adventure started.

It's something you will never forget!

To add from yesterday, salmon fishing was just insane. Caught all those and lost 4 more in couple of hours. Afternoon bite can't even have words to describe it. Never waited more than 30 seconds between hits. Halibut was great, caught those and released 3 over 65lbs. Then had one over 150lbs on and lost it.

Today was a bottom fish day, tagged out on lingcod and yelloweye and halibut, kept halibut between 30-60lbs and released one that came in at just over 100lbs...here is a picture of that fish. Once again, a halibut over 100lbs...they are plentiful in our area and the best part about it is we are the only ones that know about these spots so completely untouched.

Salmon fishing is just out of this world. Limits (8 Chinook) in boat in hr and 20min this morning with Chris David of The Hunting Chronicles. Three doubles in a row to start the day. Then C + R'd all day and had a blast as well as got our under halibut. Into over 40 Chinook today easy. If not over 50. Tomorrow winds are blowing so will be another salmon day then hopefully halibut on Wednesday. Will post with pictures in next couple days...long days make one sleepy :D

Gotta get out here, taking bookings for 2014 now, will be very booked by end of the summer, so call now.

Today was another killer day. Our new guide Lane tagged out on Chinook as did we, plus some great bottom fishing. Lingcod up to 40lbs and Yelloweye up to 20lbs. Lane also guided to a 43lb HOG!! Take a look. Plus the 40+ from 2 days ago as well :) No where else can provide you with BIG FISH AND QUANTITY like where we go (many secret spots to boot), so give us a call for 2014 asap!

This Am saw my brother and Dad on the water with mon stop action. Plus they nailed 2 tyees and 2 more around 28 pounds. That doesn't include the crazy amount of coho. We have switched to plugs due to the amount of coho around at times.

Sorry about the lack of pics, but spending time with a slowwww connection is a luxury I can't afford right now. Lodge is busy, guests are having once in a lifetime trips and the fishing is off the hook.

Limit of Yelloweye (snapper) to 18lbs, Lingcod to 30lbs, halibut between 40-55lbs, Chinook up to 27lbs. Yet another 3 Tyee pins awarded tonight.
At this rate we are going to run out.
Rumors of a 70 pounder caught just south of the Lodge

Only space we have left in 2013 is during the first 2 weeks of August.
For all those that have been thinking about a trip like this, I would encourage you to take a hard look at making that dream come true this year.

The fishing has been great this year and we see no signs of it slowing down. Lodge is running full out with some great meals and as always the service is great.
Come see what all the fuss is about. You won't be disappointed.

Big fish in Rupert area right now.
I nailed a 32 pounder yesterday. Loved the fight, unfortunately I lost a much bigger one to a unatentive boat who sliced my line.

Our friend Ken's 41 pounder was finally dropped from the number one position by a well played 42.

But the best news just came through,
A new Lodge record was set today
53 pounds!!!!
It's a big fish. I have them on my my IPhone
Not sure how to get them off.

Great groups
Great fish
Great times

Fishing is unreal up here in Hardy. Limits of Chinook (10 in boat) by 9am literally everyday. That includes missing or losing 10 as well. Can't get two rods in the water, best thing is not well known spot, so very little boat traffic :D

The Chinook fishing is easily the best on the coast of NORTH AMERICA! Never mind BC...it's insanity. If you want to experience this next year as well, give us a shout. Pics coming soon from past few days. Today was bottom only for me (salmon for other two boats plus bottom and hali) and we limited out with all our lingcod up to 25lbs, all our yelloweye and other rockfish and halibut up to 35lbs. Lost a nice one as well. Life is good...fishing is even better ;)

I'm on holidays in Campbell river . With a lot of issues with re bookings due to weather and what not I said enough bs and not having a real holiday in a few years headed up this way then I was asked if I'd be willing to do a demo on some of the salt water hooks I make similar to what I did for you Jamie but they just want to run them behind a flasher . Going to do a day or two in a boat towards the end of our trip . I watched a guy bring in a tyee off the big discovery pier intown the first night we got here that was Wednesday , watch a kid just lay into them , was down at the river yesterday there's the odd pink starting to run , looking for ward to put some of my hooks to work I'm an idiot and forgot my lite fishing gear at home gladly someone was home to take it inside so I pt didn't get stollen . So I might have to go back to the tackle shop buy a 1/2 decent spin cast set up with out breaking the bank . I will try to update one more time before we leave late next week . But talking to the locals tons of fish being caught .

Have a good summer up there buddy .

Well for one salmon are one of the most fragile fish in the ocean when it comes to survival. Approx. 20-33% of caught and release salmon die. They just can not handle the lactic acid build up not to mention poor catch and release methods as well as deep hooking. When we catch and release like we did the other day, if the fish is bleeding at all it goes on my tag and as soon as my two slots are filled, we are done. No sense killing fish and wasting them. Fortunately we have the best fishing on the coast for all species so when we are done by 9-10am on Chinook (have been literally almost every day since June 11th) we can target these other species. There are MANY other species to target and fish, many of which are fun to catch and tasty as heck!

Just got off the phone with Dan, Fishergirl, Claudio and Brad. Some EXTREMLY excited guests on the way.
As will be reported by Thunder, it's been non stop action for both Coho and Chinook. Thankfully very few pinks around.
Yesterday saw one boat play many fish and nail a hog at 37 pounds! Everything they kept was over 25 pounds.

The fishing up here in Prince Rupert has been incrediable. It's something you have to experiance in order to appreciate. We have one guest in the lodge who swears he is never going to buy a fresh water license again. Prince Rupert has spoiled him for Alberta fishing.

The Lodge is running as smooth as a top and the food is reaching legendary status. Our Chef is making the most scrumptious dinners and Snacks imaginable.

The first 2 weeks in August have room. Lets get you and your family or buddy's out here.

Cost for August $2,000/person based on 4 per boat.

GUYS, Fishing gets NO better than this. Limits of Chinook AND COHO are now being taken by 9-10am for all boats. Also nailing nice big lings, yelloweye and halibut. If a guest wants a big C + R halibut, it is no problem with decent weather that we hook into one over 60lbs, and then get some nice keepers below that as well. Limits of Lings and Yelloweye and other rockfish is no problem as well. Many fish over 30lbs around now as well. Here are some pics

Fishing continues to be outstanding. Even in rough weather over weekend limits were taken by mid day for chinook AND coho. Beauty thing is they are often in two different spots so can limit separately and still get down to chinook and tag out on them then focus on coho. Many coho over 10lbs now and tons of chinook over 30. Yesterday my dads boat had 2 over 30 and I had 3. Our 3rd boat had 2 as well.

Today tagged out on ling and yellow eye by 10 then non stop salmon action. Double after double of CHINOOK till tagged with 8 in hr and a bit then tagged on coho pretty much double after double. Many places can get doubles on coho all summer but not chinook like we do!! Call us ASAP for 2014 dates. Booking up unbelievably fast. Pics to come soon!

Limit of halibut both boats today...all mine were 50-60lbs (four of them), and lane's boat limited out on 40lbers and one 60, and released one around 160lbs!!! That's the 16th over 100lbs we have released this year!

Then salmon fished for 2 hours and limited out on Chinook and Coho. Beauty thing about fishing with us is Coho rarely are a nuisance that prevents catching Chinook...you get both!!! And today it was about 1 chinook to 1 coho, and many spots are just Chinook...so if you want the big boy you don't have to constantly wade through Coho and not get that Chinook of a lifetime.

3 tyees today as well, including a 34 and 37lb Chinook caught by our good friend Perry. That's THREE TYEES FOR PERRY IN TWO DAYS!!! From Alberta, it's his first year with us (he and Barry are a blast!!!!!!!) and they have already re booked for next year!

Pictures coming soon, promise, just so busy and little down time to upload them! :)

Ive been back for a week now and still cant stop thinking about being out on the ocean. Our group had wicked success hooking into springs, coho, pinks, hali's... not to mention my biggest fish I have ever caught!! My 37lb Ling Cod :) I'll be making a thread posting all the pics right away.. It was really an experience that I'm going to have to repeat again and again. Oh.. and tell Sandy I miss her meals ;)

Fisher, so glad to hear you had a great time. It's always a enjoyable trip when we get guests from this board.
Yes, Sandy does put on a great spread!

I look forward to your trip report and the story's you have to share.

See you and your group next year.

Salmon fishing continues to be great. Limits of chinook every single day still and pretty easy to find, plua coho to 12lbs mixed in! Today 3 tyees caught by our guests. 2 over 40lbs broke off as well! All other chinook (18 over 3 boats) minus 2 were over 24lbs. I have to say this season is our best to date so far.

Also 2 boats halibut fished and limits were caught for both with 4 of 6 fish between 49 and 61lbs. Perfect size! These guests already rebooked and they still have 2 days left!!

Yesterday limits of chinook by 10am then limits of lingcod with 4 over 30lbs and yellow eye up to 15lbs. I LOVE MY JOB  call us very soon for 2014 dates as July almost fully booked and August already is till the 9th and next guests haven't even arrived yet!

Tight lines
