Red snapper is correct.......... (Sebastes ruberrimus )

Pacific Red Snapper.

calling it a red snapper doesn't tell us what it is at all as numerous species are marketed as red snapper.

The yellow-eye rockfish is not a snapper at all.

We will likely see this species listed for conservation status in the future and more fishing regulations coming down the pipe due to it's high vulnerability to over harvest.

You are correct, there are several snappers out there.....

Nicknames can get confusing .... A red snapper caught in the gulf of Mexico is a completely different fish..... They also have an ocean fish locals call a rainbow trout.... Deffinately not what we imagine a rainbow trout to be..

Had a great ice fishing season....

8 lb female brown, a 6 lb male brown, a 7 and 7.5 lb rainbow with many 4 to 5 lbers, about 200 + lakers from 5 to 16 lbs in 4 days...caught n released all lakers but one that I kept one for the wall (just hit the right spot and right days and wow what a trip that was, arms were sore after day 2!!) Fun, fun....want to get out again for open water season.

No need to get angry... For those of us who have caught red snapper or eat red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) might get confused.... It was simple education but thanks for the scientific name...:)

Not mad at all just was hoping it would save some issues but quess not. There are probably more people that know it as The red snapper but it is just another walleye. Vs pickerel issue.

Someone has to get this thread back on track; after all, the kid did ask nicely.:)
So, here are a couple of my best catches (I can't pick just one...).

I caught this 25" brown trout 4 years ago in a section of a small creek where I had fished many times before; had never gotten anything bigger than a 17" rainbow. You can tell by the look on my face how surprised & stoked I was. Best part was having my 12 year old daughter along for the day; she took the pics...

http://imageshack.us/a/img216/1883/p8080742.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/216/p8080742.jpg/)

Most recent (and biggest) is the 55" sturgeon from a couple weeks ago...

Best pike of this year on the fly, not huge but it was welcome, I also got to break in my new gear. http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j428/AlbertaFisher/P1010544_zpse999a673.jpg

And my buddy's personal best pike on the fly, he caught it on my "radioactive squirrel" topwater pattern on his 8wt switch rod.
