I bought a new boat recently and they are in the process of building it right now. I would like to add some electronics to it, in particular a fish finder. If anyone out there has any opinions on any fish finders I would really like to hear them.

Nobody mentioned the Elite 7. It has a bigger screen than the HD 5. Without the down imaging it is 600 or less. The regular sonar is the same as the 5, I dont think it has the same networking ability as the HD 5 but if you don't need the extras go for the bigger screen.

I bought a humminbird 898 si at the start of the year. I have no complaints so far it does take some time to understand what you are seeing on the screen especailly the side Imaging but all in all a good unit.

Not sure what size boat you are putting it on but the Lowrance HD gen. 2s cant be beat IMHO. I have both the 7 and 8. Pricey but packed with features and top quality.

There's a Lowrance HDS8 Gen2 in classifieds right now that is a really good deal. Hard to buy a better sonar unit than that.

I just bought the Elite-7 from Cabelas with sonar,GPS and Down Imaging for $649. Hope to install and try it in the next couple weeks. Looks like a sweet unit..

Go with HDS 5 or 7,still have rebate I believe and you can add Side Imaging later if you wish. And if you buy 2 units you can network with just a cable.

HDS 5 available at BP for 650.00 - rebate or $100.00:sHa_shakeshout:

PS- EZM should be along soon with Humminbird:)
