The fishes are where you find them! Are you shore fishing or fishing from a boat?

Tough fishn if you cannot hook up with a rainbow at payne.

If you are fishn from shore then you would be better off with bait. worms, power bait, that kind of stuff works fine. Just fish where all the other old guys are and you should do fine.

If you have a boat then fish west by the island, most locals use a willow leaf troller with a small leader and worms or corn

You got an 8lb jack? I hope it was not from Payne, Yarrow or Drywood!! That would be a bad sign.

For payne you should be able to get some fish on leech imitations (ei. wooly bugger), but typically shore fisherman use bait there (Powerbait, marshmellows, popcorn, etc).

As for the smaller creeks, fly fishing is definitely your best bet. For this time of year, nymphing.

Looking for constructive assistance and advice without being the victim of personal attacks?

Because I believe in Karma and forgiveness - try using a spoon as a flasher to add weight and run a small panther martin or rooster tail spinner to target rainbows on a slow troll at 2mph.

Apex's also work great for rainbows. You can run a willow-leaf and 1 oz- 2 oz weight forward of the willow leaf. Speed will be roughly the same as a good starting point.

Pike are easy to catch anywhere - keep you presentation at target depth - use the appropriate running depth crank (or spoon) to target them where they are holding.
