Hopefully someone out there has some insight on these. I've been researching and narrowed it down to these:
1. ODYSSEY Extreme Series "Trolling Thunder" 31-PC2150 ($370) 78lbs.
2. TROJAN SCS-225 ($257) 66lbs.

U want the highest Amp per hour rating you can get! 110Amp/Hr is plenty good enough IMO

Assuming you are running it as (on a 12v) system .......

The Trojan provides approximately 10% more capacity minutes rated a 225 @ 25amp draw, however, the lighter weight indicates less cell weight, meaning the battery will take a charge slower and the peak power will drop sooner.

On a 12v system - This one is a coin flip ........... both good batteries ......... keep in mind these size 31's are going to be pretty tall and long ....... so make sure you have room.

On a 12v system I'd save the money and go with the Trojan.

If you are running it as a 24V (2 batteries) I would go with the heavier Odyssey as they will provide better longevity and peak power as the batteries will run more efficiently (slower amp draw) much longer due to the "assumed" heavier cell.

Forgive the highjack...

What about for a pontoon running a 30 lb thrust Minnkota? What would someone suggest as far as a decent lighter option... 90 amp or go larger?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

P.S. Just as a caveat, I know less then nothing about Deep Cycle batteries, so if someone has a good online reference that dummies it down (in VERY simple terms), please include...

If you have the room and can handle the extra weight , run 2 batteries in 12v and you'll never have to worry about being short on power.

Thanks so much! I recall that thread now that I read it, but at that time I didn't have a motor so disregarded it...

Cheers,

P

I have a 40lb thrust minn kota with a maximizer on a 12ft boat with the costco deep cycle battery. Anyone know roughly how long it should last on a slow troll? Would the trojan battery be a big improvement?

Thanks

I don't know anything about the Costco/Kirkland batteries. I've tried online for specs but can't find them. I've researched batteries for the last month and the Trojan and Odyssey that I mentioned seem to be 2 of the best deep cycle batteries money can buy...unless I've missed something. The Optimas are good. Cabelas has a better one(looks like a NorthStar AGM 31M), as good as the 2 I mentioned.
