About the only place I can think of , that is nearby, would be the trout pond a Morinville. Westlock ,itself, is void of any close by lakes. Haven't fished there, so I couldn't say what is best. As is usually the case, timing is as imp. as location. Flies, floats , spinners or spoons would prob all work ..

If you drive about an 45 min North, there's Long Island Lake, which is good for small pike and in the close proximity to that is Horseshoe Lake which has small brook trout.

Try East Pit Lake. It is a man made lake after Trans Alta drained a couple of other small ponds to fill an old open pit mine. It is about 30 odd feet deep, a km long and maybe 200 m wide. To get there head a mile north of the Wabamun overpass on Highway 16. Any canoes on the lake are hiked in so usually there is 20-30 folk fishing the shoreline. The lake is stocked each year with about 12000 8" rainbow trout and 20" takes are still fairly common.

Quick check of the Fishing Hole report:

12-Aug-2008 F
6-Aug-2008 F-G
10-Jun-2008 F
3-Jun-2008 F-G
20-May-2008 F

For shore fishing, probability of success and proximity in transit it is probably one of your best picks.
