I'm just wondering if anybody here has ever canoed the Battle River south of Camrose near Driedmeat Lake. I see in the Backroads Mapbook it is a paddling route but if I remember correctly it is a very narrow river. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I go south of town past the dump and put in at the bridge. I go from there to the lake and back. I use an electric trolling motor. Plenty deep for it. Kifs love it. Takes us a couple hours at most to do.

Hiway 21 bridge is a long paddle. Pat is talking about taking the road out past the Camrose dump to the bridge. The road is clearly marked off the ring road.

You will go south on an oiled road about 3 miles to a T intersection, turn right onto the gravel and the road will swing south past the dump. You will go about 4 miles south on the gravel and the road will go down into the river valley. There is a small area to launch a canoe and park your car. Lake is maybe about 3/4 of a mile to the east but the float will take awhile as the river really meanders. Water levels are decent so you can likely paddle aways upstream. Not much for current.

Now that they raised the dam at the 56 the lake pretty much starts at the bridge.

Nope. Very rare in the area. Head east around Hardisty to get into walleye from the battle river.
