I have a tri hull 18ft fibre glass boat. It has a 50hp on it but its broken so need to change it. I found a 9.9hp within my price range. We will mostly be fishing but wanted a big enough engine to have a pull rope. Will a 9.9 be enough?

I have a 9.9 two stroke (kicker) on my 17.5' Sylvan which is a relatively light boat and likely much lighter than your fibreglass. I have not yet ever checked my speed vs GPS but I would suspect not much more than 5mph. Will it move your boat? Yes it would but you will likely find yourself at WOT a lot and you will be pushing water, not planing at all. Heaven forbid that you also have a headwind and 2' waves. That would be a very bad day for you I would say.

that is what I have as a kicker on my 18ft, so will it push it yes...... but not sure I would want to use as my main motor..
