so another great couple hours on the nsr. caught 11 wallies and pike including a pike dbl. header (pic).
started something new for a chuckle. we are releasing the fish we catch into a large concrete "pool" which is part of the outfall. i call it the aquarium. it is 40' wide 30' long and 4' deep. it has a continual flow of water so it is well oxygenated. I have "stocked" 24 fish personally in last 2 days. when river is high they swim in and out of there anyway. as i was leaving those 2 regulars had already caught 3 pike in it and i told them that is my private aquarium and is catch and release only. lol.

OK Ill bite. Why would you do that? There is probably limited feed in there.

Why????

Not funny at all.

Also very unsportsman like.

:snapoutofit:

They give you pleasure and you don't even give them a proper release!

wow:(

And you might even get a knock on the door over this:)

I see your shark tank and I raise you 2 bluegill (without an aquaculture license of course)

no doubt. you think because you fish the river a few times a week that you own it and can transplant fish into a "holding tank" that you know damn well they cant swim over right now?! ppl like you are the very reason i stopped fishing at herm.. very unsportsman/unoutdoorsmen like. not cool at all.:rolleye2::sign0176:

When you say releasing them in there....are they "placed" or "dropped" 5-6 feet into there?

I would say IMHO as a best practice on releasing fish .....that putting them in there does not qualify.

Im betting fish and wildlife would love to know about your mis-treatment of fish. Great work, I hope your proud of the fact you just killed 24 fish.

It may be oxygenated but is that water not coming straight from storm drainage? AKA, polluted and nasty?

Not to mention a 40X30 tank won't have enough food to sustain them more than a few days...

buckbrushoutdoors

Why wouldn't you just put them back into the river where you caught them? What's your reasoning behind putting them in there? I'm always curious how stupid minds work?

I'm dissapointed in your judgement error.... Anyone up for a fish rescue tonight?

nekred

I don't see any holding water there where they get a chance to rest....

1st Stupid...= releasing fish improperly

2nd Stupid...= Releasing fish illegally

3rd Stupid ...=posting your illegal stupidity online

4th stupid... Bragging about it....

Can't fix stupid but maybe fine the hell out of it, and remove fishing licenses...

RAP notified via email....

They will figure out the legalities....

Hopefully charges of some kind can be laid....

"A fish is considered retained (kept) when it is not immediately returned to the waters from which it was taken."

If I wasn't already fishing outside of town I'd consider it. Maybe netting them out would be an option?

What concerns me now, is that outfall is a very popular spot...I wonder how many other fisherfolk saw this happening, and of those others, how many thought that it may be a good idea for the future? I'm concerned about the possible slippery slope...

Ninja,,

Your peers have posted.

Some out of pure concern for our fishery and your judgement, and others commented because they rarely get the chance to criticize anyone.

My two bits;

Do the fish only have the storm sewer for shade?

How is the Pelican population up Edmonchuck way?

Edit; Not familiar with the area or this structure, but is that multi directional-turbid flow? Does it always flow? Is the water from the storm sewer warmer than the river.

To Jay and the other rescuers, be careful. Manmade structures tend to create the worst undertows, even in short distances.

REALLY IGNORANT
- dropping a fish into the water from 10 feet up
- putting a fish into a small pen with no food that it can't escape from
- putting a fish into an area where it has to swim constantly

REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY STUPID
- posting about how ignorant you are on the internet

Lack of judgement like that makes the world a worse place to live in. I really hope you grow up and learn some better judgement soon.

big oops. even though they are are able to swim in and out of there anyways i was only curious if they would stay in there for any amount of time. wasn't worried about the water as its basically the same water that they were caught in along the edge. food supply is not the same however and i will try to catch any that are still in there and release into the river.
appolagies to anyone offended. was just trying something different.

Master_Baitcaster
07-24-2013, 01:02 PM
They cant swim out of there right now the waters not high enough. Stop trying to down play the actions you made . Not sure why you'd even think that is okay... How about you don't " try anything different " anymore and treat them as they are and with a little respect they're wild fish, not aquarium pets for your pleasure.. poor display of judgement Here..

Why edit your post? Do you feel it's ok to remove fish from the river and trap them in a small concrete pool? Just trying to understand your logic.
