A good lake to fish in Saskatchewan

Hi Everyone,

I am looking at doing a 3 day Camping excursion in Sept to Saskatchewan.

I am looking for some recommendations on lakes to visit and fish. I would say any lakes with a 200km distance from Lloydminster are open to the visit.

I will be camping with a tent. I will have a 4X4 truck so roads will not be a real concern. From my understanding the secondary highways are an education in road maintenance...

What I am looking for is a recommendation on a few good lakes that are not over populated, not very commercialized. I will have a depth finder and can pull of the depth charts so I know how deep I want to go and look for certain structures.

I hear Tobin lake and Turtle Lake are good. I have also heard of Medow lake and Lac La Plonge

What I will be fishing for are:

1) Lake Trout
2) Walleye
3) Northern Pike

I have become familiar with the limits and regulations in Saskatchewan and now I am laying the groundwork for it to make it happen.

Meadow lake PP is awesome and you will have your fill of fishing

If you don't want over populated stay away from Turtle and Tobin.
Get as far north as possible to get away from the crowds.

Going to Turtle is like going to Wabamun/Ste. Anne. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

Tobin isn't too bad, as most people wont make the drive up in September. Kids back in school, etc.

Tobin is much further then 200 kms of Lloyd, more like 500 kms.

Sturgeon lake is a little further then 200(just over 300) but is a nice sheltered lake if you only have a small boat. I haven't been there in a few years but fishing was ok for pike and the odd walleye when we were there and the campground is fairly nice. Sturgeon is the closest lake to Lloyd I have fished in Sask.

If you want seclusion better make it 200ks from Meadow Lake.

starting point.. I'm not opposed to going 400 -500 km from there.

It appears that going to the northern lakes in saskatachewan is preferable...

Are you talking Sturgeon lake north of Holbien near Prince Albert ? Lots of walleye and perch there !

Yeah that is the lake. We only got a few walleye and didn't target perch(didn't know they were good there).

We loved it there because the lake is so protected. Lakes like Tobin can be dangerous in a small boat and it doesn't take any wind at all to keep you on shore. At Sturgeon it would have to be extremely windy to force you off the lake.

Dore can get really rough in a small boat as well. Go to pinehouse lk. if you want to catch alot of walleye, gordon lake close by has lakers in it too.

I second Meadow Lake PP. Has the species you are after and then some. Multitude of lakes to choose from.

Lots of variety in lakes/campgrounds at Meadow Lake PP, shouldn't be as busy there either. Although Keeley still stays busy into mid September.
