Well we met up with my cousin, and had an afternoon of fishing with the little ones, yesterday at Pine Coulee. Mostly eating hotdogs and chasing each other, not really alot of fishing going on :) My daughter finially managed to hook her first fish. I am not used to the fancy new camera so the pictures didnt turn out well. I had the camera around my neck and Lilly was on my knee as she was reeling. When she pulled the fish from the water it splashed her and the lense of the camera. So the pictures turned out as my face is censored. Also once it splashed her she wasnt too keen on touching it anymore. She was real curious at first, but she is like daddy its still alive throw it back :)
I am super proud of her. Her attention span for fishing is growing longer and longer as well. And she woke up this morning talking about fishing.

I wasnt able to get any action shots with the fish on as she was sitting on my knee when she hooked the fish. But she likes reeling on the mickey mouse rod.

Her fish was way bigger than the first fish I ever caught, a 5 inch long brook trout on an alder twig.

hahahah. Right on!!!

I love to hear about these stories!

I take my daughter out fairly regularly fishing. She's 3,5 but we load the boat up with ponies, blankets, stuffed animals. When I go out with her we don't usually catch much although she did boat a 20.5 inch walleye at lac St. Anne a few weeks back. I spend more time teaching her about things, the water, fish, the random "hold this I'm getting my food", etc.

The key is making it fun and all about them. I find if she get's bored I'll fire up the boat and burn some fuel at higher speeds. While I am doing that I am also scouting locations on the lake for fishing! It's a Win/Win!

This past weekend she took the initiative and learned how to hook minnows on jigs all on her own.

It's great you're creating these memories for her and getting her involved. :sHa_shakeshout:

Great story:)

I take my kids out fishing often. We are heading to newell tomorrow and the my parents are meeting to take the kids with them back home to Medicine Hat....We will fish for a couple of hours and that is all they will need..lol. When I go out I make it a day..Which is way too long for them. Once they are gone, I am going to some night fishing( evening I mean)...Sunset...

That's what it's all about right there. Your pic captioned "The Rest of the Crew" is timeless. It could have been taken in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's... just different years of vehicles in the background.
