Made my yearly voyage back to P.E.I last week. Fishing the river was not as productive as last year, the locals said the Stealhead are late coming up this year. caught lots of Sea Runs in the 12-16" range, which are still a great fight on the fly rod, these fish pretty much hang out in Tidal Water all the time so they are super Scrapy! Shrimp patterns are the Ticket. I hooked one Stealhead that was Very Fresh, i couldnt get to him without getting up to my chest in my waders, and sure enough he took it. I had no where to go, and he took off taking me right to my backing! the next 5-10 min. i basiclly tried to keep my 4 piece 5wt TFO from breaking (have a 10ft 7-8wt but didn't bring it...) after 4-5 big jumps and a bunch of runs i had him close but he then drug me into some over hanging willows and he was gone...great fight and all i have is a good story to show for it...

Went out with my Dad and some buddies for Giant Bluefin Tuna again. Crazy day...we take off in my dads buddies 45 ft fishing boat for about a hour and a half sail to Basin Head. Checked the Engine before we left, all good. 1 hour in we loose oil pressure, and can only idle. open the motor hatch to discover the motor is almost under water with 6 feet of water in the hull....long story short we almost sank, had to call the Coast Guard, made it to the Harbour with all of us bailing w/ 5 gallon buckets and bilge pump running, the Coast Guard then pumped us out with a high out put pump. Cant say enough how helpfull they were! found out that the cooling pump had cracked, and at full throttle it didnt take long to fill the hull. We got parts(4000.00) made it back out by noon. Hooked up with the first around 5. probably 800-1000lbs, i got on the rod when he hooked up. he took 5-600yrds of line first run! then came right at us, and went nuts! seriously Pi$$ed off Fish! we had two guys that had never caught one and i could see their eagerness to get on the rod, so handed it over. All i needed was 10-15min with him and i had my fix anyway. after a hour he pulled the hook after giving both guys a run for their money. we hooked one more but didnt get a good hook set... Great Day on the Water! I am Fully obssesed with these Fish! the Power they have is unreal... http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/IMG_09591_zpsf5e27b95.jpg http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/IMG_09641_zps177c335b.jpg http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/IMG_09701_zps79001053.jpg Fresh Maple Glazed Sea Trout! http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t485/shortsvm/IMG_09581_zps1344428b.jpg Lunch at my Dads after Fishing and Golf!

Think this guy went for 17.50 a lb. Dressed out around 900, So not a bad days pay! Sadly the fishermen often only get 5-10 because the japanese buyers say the fat quality is low... Buy the time these fish get to japan they get sold for as much as 500,000! Crazy. Sadly the industry is dictated by the fish that are netted and held in huge nets and fattened up for months before being sold. this is why the price is so low for the "wild fish" caught on rod and reel, and also why the bluefin is endangered... Australia and mediteranean bordering countries are the culprits...The eastern sea board is actually seeing populations increase from tight quotas and rod and reel only fishing. In my opinion these Giants deserve the respect to only be caught with a rod! They are a amazing creature!

Whoa!! Crazy story I would have been freaking out if I was sinking!

Nice Tuna too its huge! Way bigger then some I've seen on Wicked Tuna. That'd be a fun experience. Do you do this trip every year? You guys trolling deep? Herring? Is it hard to find a school of them? So many questions :P

Its a PENN Int. Atlantic Tuna 130lb with a PENN 130ST Reel. one of the rods has a OKUMA reel on it though. We run 50yrds of 200lb Flouro Leader 4-600yrds of 200lb Mono and 4-600yrds of 200lb Dackron Backing. Doesn't get more Heavy Duty! lol some of the Charter Boats use lighter set ups though. They really put your gear to the test!

i go every summer! I was Born there but have lived in Alberta since i was 2. We use live and dead Mackeral for bait and Herring when we can get it. we dont troll, basicly we are bobber fishing! lol we just drift and watch were the fish are and adjust our baits to their depth. and sometimes attach a balloon or indicator. on a average day we mark 20-50 fish. sometimes when we chum schools of them will come right to the boat! very cool to see fish that big cruising by!

I have fond memories of PEI, spent 2 or 3 summers there as a kid at my uncles farm. Then I spent two tours there in Summerside when I was in the military 73-76 and 78-82, good times and good food. Cheers Roscoe
