Still feel new to Alberta here...
What do I need to fish in Alberta, I was hoping to cast a line into Sibbald Lake this weekend so I don't pester my girlfriend while she reads lol.
In BC I could get a license online and did not need anything else but apparently I need a WIN card and then I can buy a license at a private shop?
Please just tell me steps "1" through whatever to make my life easy....

Step 1, get a WIN card
Step 2, buy a fishing license
Step 3, make sure you sign your license
Step 4, read your free copy of the regulations front to back
Step 5, repeat step 4 several more times...
Step 6, go fishing and have fun!

You can do it all online.
Here's the link: https://www.albertarelm.com/

Don't bother reading the printed regs front to back unless you want a migraine from all the ads...
Get your license and then read the general regulations as seen here.
http://www.albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/general-regs.html
Then if you are heading out to a particular lake make sure you look it up in either your printed regs or by selecting the fish management zone and finding lake on this page.

If I do it online with https://www.albertarelm.com/ can I go out right away with a print off?

Went to do it on-line.... apparently I have to have done an Alberta Hunters Education Course (which I will be doing in the near future) before I can apply...
I JUST WANT TO GO FISHING!!!!!!!!!

Go to Walmart or Canadian Tire with some money and your driver's license and ask for your WIN Card and Fishing license. You'll get a receipt or something to prove your WIN Card with a plastic one coming in the mail in a few weeks.

No you don't. That's only for a hunting license. You've gone into the wrong area.
You can do it all online and print off your fishing license. Takes less that three minutes.

Don't forget the mandatory trip to the toy store for new shiny hooks...
Although it's mostly picked over you can still find something worth throwing..
Good luck on your trip...

Dont need any tackle, got that all left over from when I moved here from Northern BC. The problem is I'm finally getting enough time to become familiar with southern alberta that the girlfriend and I are camping again (camping a lot :sHa_shakeshout: ) and start hunting/fishing but Alberta has more loop holes than BC did...
Not that I dont like it here... I LOVE IT! Fewer trees than I would like but still a great place to live :)

I never 'need' tackle...I just end up buying some everytime I go to the toystore...Usually it's beacause I lost one or two on a previous outing which I want to replace.
Pick up those and a few others....
What sort of loopholes are there? Aside from requiring a WIN card.

I am thinking he meant "hoops" not "loop holes"

I had meant hoops! But I remember hunting in BC with my dad and I never needed Hunter Ed. course and I didn't need any sort of ID number (ie. WIN) to get one day or even whole year fishing licenses. It just seemed easier...

My girlfriend can cast my line right? We are only bringing one rod and as long as I'm with her and I have a license and WIN we should be good if any CO's come by?

If she wants to cast and/or fish at all she will need to buy a license herself.

Alberta fishing licenses are quite inexpensive. Get her a license. If CO sees her cast she will get a ticket(and should)!
Welcome to AB and good luck fishing.
