Spent 2 days fishin cats in Manitoba last week. Between 2 of us we caught approx 70 cats with an average of 16 lbs and the largest being 24 lbs. these things pull hard and are a blast to catch. Also caught a freshwater drum that makes Manitoba's master angler book.79447

Locals also call them .... Sheep's Head or Silver Bass !

I spent many days/hours anchored in that same spot .... nice fish!

In Manitoba now, yesterday we caught 60 cats between 2 of us. Largest was 39" and the first 7 where all master angler class. In total, 60% where over 34". Got to love big cat's. the power the have is impressive. Once I get the pictures off the camera's, i will post some.

Trying to green backs now!

Just got back, we fished for green backs on Saturday at Pine Falls and on the Red yesterday. we got a few but they are not there in the numbers they should be. The water temp was 61F which is quite warm for this time of year (so we where told). The guide said that is why the Cats where still on. I never understood the whole green back thing until i saw my first one. They almost glow they are so green. One of the coolist things I have ever saw.

Get down there Wayne, you won't be sorry. Steady action and they pull hard! June is supposed to be even better.

what is the river like over there ? i have always wanted to make a road trip to catch some cats ! do you need a jet boat ? or can you run the river without leaving pieces of your prop behind on the old outboard?

We covered less than a km of the river. Jet boat definitely not needed. We did the majority of our fishing about 300 yards from the launch.
