Approximatly when is the average time frame that you can start driving on the ice at Gull. Can't wait to get some whites. Dec or Jan? I know most lakes it takes till Jan.

Earliest we usually make it out is between Christmas and new years.

People had drove on opening day last year. I walked on and drilled some holes- 6-8". I drove on about a week after.

time frame varies depending on the year, only tried and tested way is to drill a few holes, ensure consistancy in the ice depth, and not drive until its safe!

I know, need at least 12" of ice for this guy but, When would one expect it is possible? Just trying to plan a few outings for over the winter. Have the early Dec, walk on ones for trout set. Need to figure a few drive on outings for whites and a few for perch.

Just remember people go through every year. Ive punched test holes and had 12" of ice drive a couple hundred yards to our spot and 6".... Lol, not a good feeling.

Any one check the ice at Gull? Opening season is this week and long range weather says warm for next weekend.

I've seen guys drive a full size truck on 5"-6" of ice ......... but you won't catch me on the ice with my truck until it's closer to 18".

12" should be fine - but you can't guarantee it will be 12" in every spot - so why take the risk?

I guess it also depends on how far you are going - I certainly wouldn't cross a big lake until the ice is really solid.

With the cool weather - it might be ready pretty soon.

I heard that last weekend there was 3-4" but lots of snow and flood water. I was a mile from gull snowmobiling last weekend and the ground wasn't even frozen under all this snow. Hopefully this cold weather has helped.

What is flood ice? I was out there as well and saw a little slush right at shore, but that's it

I am referring to the white ice that looks as if its just been snow melting and freezing on top of the nice clear ice.

Only 9 inches of ice 100 yds out at Brownlows, A Pickup drove out on it today but mine will stay parked at shore till we get more then that.

I like my truck just the way it is, above water and getting me home!!!
