Payne Lake

I'm curious about Payne lake now. I've never fished there this time of year...I'm guessing its iced over, but does anyone have an idea as to how much ice it would have?

Probably not completely iced up. Went by Dipping Vat today and it still had some open water. Waterton Res was mostly open and StMary was wide open.

Thanks for the info, do you know when these mountain lakes usually ice up enough to fish on?

Was on Payne the last week of November last year, 3" of clear ice by the boat launch. Planned on going this weekend to take a look but didn't make it, couch was too comfy.

Payne is only maybe 1/3 frozen at best. I am thinking of taking the boat out actually!! Be a while yet, its cold at night but warm enough to melt during the days still.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll have to wait a little longer....this is one of the few times where I am cheering for the mercury to plummet.

Butcher had a bunch of holes drilled in it on Tuesday. There was no open water
