Has anyone done Surf Fishing in Cabo before?? Leaving Dec 14th .
We will charter a Boat for a day but i want to also try some surf fishing and looking for some pointers on what to use and any areas you have had luck..I will take a rod down and probably buy lures there..
What about using leaders and what test of line. I would love to tie into a Rooster fish from shore ....

Cheers.

Roosters, big ones from the beach probably not this time of year but lots of other stuff. A boat is your best bet but let them know what you wanna do, catch fish and multiple species...they are used to fat tourists not fisherman!! If you want to chuck from the beach try the south end especially if the wind is blowing and the waves are crashing...there are beaches and rocks for a couple of miles!! As far as gear goes the bigger the better, I've busted 2 pike rods on 10 lbs jacks down there! Now I have a 9' fast action surf rod, 50lbs power pro with a 3' 40lbs fluoro leader. A 1oz crocodile spoon in various colors will catch just about anything down there, if your casting off the rocks let it sink a bit and rip it back, Cubera snapper can't leave it alone! If you don't mind sacrificing a crankbait or two bust the lip off with a pair of pliers so that you can skip em across the top of the water, if there are Roosters around along with a half dozen other species that's how you'll get them...I'm jealous bro have fun!!

Just got back. Caught lots of fiesty little jacks, and some other crazy looking fish on my fly rod. Also got into a few skip jack tuna, that absolutely smoked my reel, never landed any.... One of them snapped my leader loop... Super tough.. Didnt catch anything on my spin gear casting 3 oz lures. The sierra should be there soon. I was shore fishing sea of Cortez side. Would be better Pacific side.

Don't forget to take some bait hooks and sinkers, the last time I was in Mexico none of the sexy fish were close to shore, but I had fun chucking bait, it took 3 oz to hold bottom.

I prefer squid to shrimp.

Wes is the best. He fishes every single morning and he'll put you on fish; Sierras, Jacks, Roosters, Sharks, Snapper, Yellowtail, whatever's around. Tell him Ben from Alberta says "hi."
