Did you happen to see any tire tracks on the ice? I'm curious how much snow is on the lake after those storms.

What do you mean by iced?

term popular with Crazy people who drill holes in the ice in the cold cold winter. means they caught a fish, got it through the ice, and most likely in that lake put it back into the hole in the ice and waved goodbye. I ice fish all the time :)

Just a heads up for anyone heading out to CVR, don't bother going out by the Red Rock and turn right drive straight to the lake( those were the directions I got from a few diff. people on separate occasions ) … the road is only plowed to the fence then totally drifted over took my truck in over the hills and through the grass got stuck once on the way in and once on the way out ( also brought a tow rope and my buddy pulled me out ):angry3:…. Unless you have a big 4x4 with big ol tires…..

So red rock road is a NO go at all to access lake? Or you mean the lease road that heads SW from red rock? Ive been stuck in those areas before so I feel your pain.

Township road 230 is where I turned at the " red rock" and it headed straight to the lake (well the road did we couldn't….) it was cleared all the way until you get to the fence where the warnings are for " no camping " " catch and release walleye" … then the snow drifting starts over the road 2-3' is spots. I would assume at some point it will be cleared as there is one more compressor station that they will need to get to at some point. :thinking-006:

Lat Saturday was out for the day. 20" of ice where we were. Fishing was a bit slow, but iced a half dozen between 3 of us.

A buddy of mine and I are planning on checking out Crawling Valley Sunday. It will be a first time there for me, I'll post pics of what we catch. Hopefully it's not just a cold!

Anybody fishing at crawling valley recently? Is there a path on the ice to drive along the west shore going north from the camp ground yet?

I fished near the head gates a couple days ago and didn't catch a thing. Saw about 16in of ice.

Spent the day at crawling valley today. Wow lots of snow! Unless you have a snowmobile or don't mind a crazy long walk you are confined to the area right out from the marina. No obvious tracks heading north on the lake at all. Managed only one small pike and a walleye all day. Saw one quite large walleye come right up to my camera which was very cool though and 3 or 4 other pike liked my jigging rap but never bit it. With no real access to the main lake it should be good whenever you can blaze a trail.

I don't think there many whitefish (or perch) in there. I have never seen one on a camera at least. Most guys are fishing pike and walleye. There are burbot in there as well but I think there is a night fishing restriction on CV if memory serves and the real burbot hunters do their dirty work with the vampires after dark.......:sHa_shakeshout:

Fished Crawling today for about 5 hours, starting at 3:30. Not even a bite. I saw one guy pulling up a small pike, just as I arrived, but most others were experiencing very similar results to mine. Once the wind died down (about 7:00), it was actually quite pleasant, with the coyotes and Great Horned Owls singing around the lake.
