I just went through this same process and I went with the Clam. I had a hard time locating one here in Calgary too. BassPro had ONE coming in on a truck this week that I managed to snag. I went with the Bigfoot because they mentioned their 11mm poles in the specs whereas Eskimo doesn't. They might be the same size or even bigger but it caught my eye with the Bigfoot. Also, the Bigfoot's fabric is 600D with the three layers combined but the 949i specs says 300D. Again, Eskimo's might be 600D combined but they don't explain this. The Bigfoot is a little roomier and the extra 8 pounds doesn't bother me. Clam has a few videos on their site, Eskimo has one general video in an obscure location. So Clam did a better job selling their product, I guess. They're both $400 here in my neck of the woods. One other thing, the Bigfoot seemed better reviewed on the web.

Good luck and I hope we made the right decision :)

I purchased mine last year from Cabelas... Had the 949i and didn't care for it.. Built up condensation in no time flat and then dripped on us the rest of the day... No such problem with the Clam

I just got back from Bass and it turns out they were mistaken about only one tent coming in. Mine was there and there was one set up on the floor. They also had the Clam XL2000 there which is basically the non-insulated version of the 4000T. The XL2000 has the black coating on the inside whereas the XL4000T does not. Therefore, you can see light through the quilted fabric as well as the stitching. I haven't seen the inside of a 949i. I thought I'd mention this because I know some guys like an absolutely dark shelter. It's no big deal for me but YMMV.

Hope that helps.

No 6-man tents on the floor at all. They had the 4000 and 2000, an Eskimo 6x6, a Rapala and a couple of Frabil flip overs.

949i is insulated nicely, dark and warm. Poles, zippers, fabric and skirts are solid and well stitched or welded.

great tent ....
