Looking at entering some tournaments this year. I have fished my entire life but never entered a tournament before.

I have a 18' legend fully rigged out so think I have the boat to go.

Any advise for guys who enter a bunch of these or follow one of the trails.

Where are you located? In Southern Alberta http://www.sawt.ca/ is the way to go. Too much fun, great group of guys.

Live close to edmonton but travel is not a big issue. Would be travelling in a motorhome.

Western Canadian Walleye trail http://www.walleyetrail.ca/listings
is closer to home for you then but you're always welcome to try the Southern derbies as well.

Cheers,

Best one to enter as a rookie would be the Big River Walleye Classic. The post-spawn females are still in shallower water so there is no need to chase 30 miles to the deep end. Fewer than a hundred boats, but growing, and an excellent way to get your feet wet. Part of the Western Canadian Walleye Tour so some of the same teams you would see at Lesser Slave or Pinehurst or any of the major tournaments at Tobin will be there. Good prize money and plenty of extras.

Plenty of good guys to meet and tons of fun! PM me for entry details.

A great choice for your first tournament would be Moose Lake. One of the best run tournaments in Western Canada. George and his group do a great job. Close to Edmonton, lots of fish, not bad to fish even in big wind. Good luck. Welcome to the tournament addiction!

Are you pulling your boat with your motorhome? I wouldn't recommend it if you are. Launching your boat with the motorhome may slow things down when there are 50 other guy's lined up at the launch. I would recommed Wilville Walleye Classic at Pinehurts in June. It's not expensive and it's and it's a ton of fun.

Pinehurst or moose would be your best bet. Moose lake is usually full early and waiting list in effect. Pinehurst is a little easier to get into for a spot. Don't recommend big river yes you will need to run 30 Kms to have a chance at catching a descent sized fish. Go through listing On western canadian walleye trail and go over rules to see what is expected from tournament anglersfor each tournament. Got any questions your more then welcome to PM me.

I did Pinehurst last year, and like Walleye101 said, don't launch with the motorhome there. Not much room and the ramp is kinda steep. Tournament was a blast though...

I agree George does a good job. The lower pool fees are increasing to (600) from 350, in 2014 with a higher payout in the lower pool. The other pool is still 1000.

Moose launch. There is also a huge T shaped pier that is out there now as well, pic was from 2006.
