Looking to head out to Newell this Saturday and was wondering if anyone could tell me or had been out there this week and how conditions are. Any info would be appreciated.

Was out there today at Reddleback Bay, there is lots of snow, 4x4 will be required to get on the ice. Caught 3 in the morning (nothing to brag about), lost three, some nibblers, and a few nice ones that were looking but not interested. Sighted lots on the camera.
Ice was about 13.5 inches, wind has caused a few drifts.

Just a side note, you can access the lake from the boat launch at Kinbrook Island, no 4x4 required unless you try to venture onto the ice with a vehicle. I don't think anyone has broken a trail to Jack Fish Bay or the Pumphouse.

The three you caught pike? What types of fish you seeing?

I caught all pike , saw lots of pike, 1 white fish, no perch or anything else for that matter, lots of shrimp, I was only in 8 feet of water. With a one pike limit you need to get a big one to make it worth while.

Ya for sure always good meeting other AOF members.Really looking forward to finally getting out to Newell. Lots of good things I have heard about it. Just kinda got into fishing and ice fishing last year so been a lot of reading and learning from others and trial and error.

Trial and error is the main thing. Gotta put in the hours.

Think that putting in the time is sometimes the best way to learn. Don't get me wrong I am always all ears when out with people that have lots of experience because always new things to learn. See too many people on here wanting everything on silver platter.

yes south of the Kinbrook park
this map might be a help to you
http://srd.alberta.ca/MapsPhotosPublications/Maps/PrairiesAreaBathymetryMaps/documents/newell.pdf there are a few places on the lake that never have safe ice, if in doubt dont drive the area unless you do a lot of test drilling or follow the crowds

Never mind Wayne did a little leg work and found a old map of the lake with all the bays named and placed on a sat pic.
