I find it funny you are now living in Alberta and fishing OUR lakes. I hope your views of Albertans have changed.

Cross Lake is dead.

Careful...you are crowding Safety D's turf.

As for Cross it is not dead, fished it this summer. It can be very hit and miss during the winter. Some days are slower than syrup.

Talked to some guys that caught near the boat launch last week. No numbers, average to small fish.

It's funny how when we go to other provinces everyone bitches bout your plates! But most of them are here working so they can pay the mortgage back home! Using our infrastructure and contributing nothing to the tax base! Anyways hope the move to cold lake works out positive and you realize how good of a place alberta is!

lots of winter kill or a blue green algae outbreak, will put this lake back at least five years

Really? We have only had a month of winter and it's killed already? I was there in the boat early September. I did alright (just like the other trips previous. We are talking about Steele(Cross) Lake..... right?

It can be a tough lake in winter. I don't bother with it until March.

Can anyone confirm this?

Yup huge die off. 338 was just catchin the dead ones still swimming around lol
Seriously the lake has been hammered for a couple years. Do you think it's going to still be easy to catch? Everyday?

I was on it toward the end of summer and talked at length to one of the conservation officers at the park... He figures that it saw so much pressure in the last couple of years that it could take a couple of years to rebound

GregT

I've fished there for twenty years. Some days are good, others not. That's fishing. I don't think recent 'heavy' pressure has hurt the lake.

He didn't suggest that the pressure had hurt it, just that the size of fish are down to the smaller variety

Change the limit to 5 for a couple of years and it will be great again.

You know there is a thing called C&R, maybe you should try it, and you wonder why lakes get hit so hard.
