Looking for some background on the Remington model 725's as some of you may recall I have been in the market for a 280 cal in a Remington for the middle boy and recently a Model 725 has come available but I am not familar with them they sort of pre date any of my memory. The rifle itself appears to be in excelent shape on the surface it looks remarkable it shows very little use. In handling the action it seems very tight and just by looking down the muzzle it appears good as well. As well the front and rear sights do not appear to be tapped and drilled so how are they attached and could they be removed without showing mounting holes or slots ???

The price of the gun is basicly new but like I said it is in very good shape and being that Remington has discontinued the cal I would like to pick up the gun but I do not want a gun that may have a bad history. Any feed back is appreciated...

Try the Remington web site, under history you should be able to find some information. The gun will have been made prior to 1962 thus is when Remington came out with the Model 700 line of firearms

just brought home a 725 in .280 myself. it is in a little rougher shape than the one you describe.
the 725 was made in 1958, the predecessor to the 700, it was remingtons answer to the high grade model 70 winchester.
i also have one in 244 rem. the sights are soldered on, so if want to mount a scope real low they may get in the way. pm if you have any other questions, lee.
