Cool time lapse of the sunrise:

This has to be one of the most extreme weather ice fishing experiences I have ever fished. The wind was howling and snow blowing filling your hole and covering your gear in a minute or so. Got out there in the dark at Driftwood and hiked out to the middle. Where I drilled it was about 65 feet deep. I was marking fish near the bottom which were slow movers and following the jig but not committing. Then one came in and hit, then I cranked the jig up and he chased it up and grabbed it. The MarCum really comes in handing getting fish to bite. I landed this fish and that was to be all the luck I had. Stayed out until noon but it was just too cold to stay longer. What a crazy day, stunning scenery and sunrise.

This is the second season I am using the MarCum VX-1P I think it usually sells for around 300-400 dollars depending where you get it. I love it! I don't have any experience with other flasher units but think this one is great. I am satisfied with it and feels it meets all my needs. Works amazing in deep water over 100 feet for lake trout up at Cold Lake and Spray. Also works great when I fish for perch, walleye and rainbow trout. Haven't given it a try for other species yet. Can't believe I waited so long to get one. Believe that you will catch more fish!

I wish I could be sponsored by MarCum but no relations currently, haha!

It's a lake trout. No grayling there but some rocky mountain whitefish.

That is a Lake Trout I caught in the video. As far as I know there are no grayling in spray lake. Supposed to be lots of rockies though usually fished for in 5-15 feet of water during the winter supposedly, but I didn't try.

Nice! Atleast the one you got was above average! Get some good fillets off that guy! Best tasting fish in AB right there!

I picked up the same model 2 weeks ago, and yes, for a base model, they seem to work great! It really helped us land a few fish on Friday at Spray.

Yeah you will love it. The zoom function that zooms in on the bottom 5 feet works really well at Spray since most of the lakers were coming by in that range. If you haven't used that little ZM buttom make sure to give it a try.

Yep, I've definately tried the zoom function. It's going to be fun unit to play around with a bit and learn how to use it most effectively.
