My son took a couple deer this past weekend with his new ruger 270 wsm using 150 gr hornady's. I was suprised at the extensive wound channel this bullet left on these yearling deer. We were hoping to use this load for moose and elk, but after looking at the results of the past weekend I think I may need work up a load using the 140 tsx as I have a box sitting on the shelf. Has anyone used the 140 tsx on game and how did they perform?

My brother and I loaded some up for use this fall for the 270wsm's, first time we've used this bullet. Have them going about 3200 fps with IMR7828. I shot a goat with one last week, single shot kill, quartering to shot, bullet went in the lower neck just above the shoulder and exited out the center of the far side shoulder. Exit wound was small, about the size of a quarter, but it jellied most of the off side shoulder. Killed the goat dead instantly.

My son killed a few deer and a bear with the 130 gr TSX shot from a Tikka. Excdellent performance. My load was 60 gr of H4831sc with a CCI magnum primer.

My hunting partner shoots a 270 Win. and I shoot a 270 WSM, both using 130 gr TSX bullets. Between the two of us we have shot a pronghorn, a bull elk, and 10 deer. While this is not a huge number of animals, from what I have observed the TSX bullets work very well on game. They seem to kill very well, but don't ruin as much meat. I realize that other guys have observed a lot of meat damage, but that hasn't been what we've seen. Obviously a TSX bullet isn't necessary for pronghorn / deer sized game, but I feel confident using them on larger game such as elk, and I don't want to be using different loads during the season. The elk that I shot was a one shot kill and even the 130 gr bullet gave complete penetration on him.

I personally prefer the 140gr Accubonds in my 270WSM. So impressesd with the performance @ the range and on big game (moose/elk/deer/bears) that I traded all my 140gr TSX for more Accbonds.

130-140 gr TSX will get the job done.

Another confirmation that a 130TSX will offer more than enough penetration and terminal damage for any animal from a 270WSM. Only time I've heard of the TSX not performing extremely well is when loaded at slower speeds, say below 2500fps or so.
