View Full Version : How to read depth on a MarCum?

Guys, I feel stupid, but I picked up my first flasher a few weeks ago, a MarCum VX1-P. I don't see it in the owner's manual and can't find the info online. How exactly do I determine how deep the bottom is? I understand how to use the different depth setting on the depth knob to find the bottom, but for example, if I have it set at 80', how to I read the increments on the dial to determine how many feet the bottom actually is? Or if it was set at 40'? If anyone has any good links to a tutorial on this, I'd would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a couple videos I made last year on how to use your flasher. If you increase the depth interval you just time the depth by 2 to get your depth. Say you have a 20 foot setting and change to 40. Then the 10 foot mark will be at acutal 20 feet. Same if you crank it up to 80, then again you have to just do the math to convert. But really depth doesn't matter. Just put your lure where you are seeing the fish show up and hold on. Good Luck

Thanks Brandon, I've watched both of your videos before. So here's a question... on the second link, the perch video, your depth dial is set at 40'. At about the 3:30 mark, how do you read approximately what depth you're at? Which set of numbers do you use, or am I missing a concept all together?

They are definitely easy to mark fish with and put your lure at the proper depth, but do the numbers on the dial not mean anything?

Ok so on marcum face big white outside numbers are depth when dial set at 20. When set at 40 the inside blue numbers are used. Then at the 80 range the small outside blue numbers are the depth. For the 160 range you multiply the small blue numbers by 2. That is how it works if your dial is the same as mine.

Not sure if this will work. Heres the manual.
