Sounds about right to me, though one time last year we caught a couple a foot under the ice in 15' of water.

Move around a bit.
Try different depths.
Try dropoffs adjacent to shallow feeding areas for small fish

I've seen guys use liver. Seemed to work pretty good.
Back in the day I met a farmer that was catching them hand over fist simply pulling out the gills from the most recently caught burb, loading it up on a Ted devil spoon, and jigging it a bit. Strange eh?
I was wondering if anyone has tried squid or octopus??
Stuff would stay on a hook well enough.

It does stay on the hook well, and you can cut it with scissors into almost any shape you want, for jigging or casting like a spoon (a big wiggly spoon) or just pile it on as bait.
The downside is, is if you forget that you have some laying about somewhere, well, good luck selling the house or car.

It's that bad huh?
I wouldn't a thunk it.
Good advice.
I'm notorious for leaving smelts to rot in the truck.
Ewww!
Anyone else got bait ideas??
I had a guy at work tell me solid tofu. I don't believe him.
I'm too manly to purchase tofu anyways.
