Ive been trying to find old threads of someone using a ice rod and some contraption that would set the hook...with some wire i thing....and maybe some coat hook wire?
I made one with a rat trap....but i keep catching my fingers.....anyone have a rig they use? From what i recall the bend in the rod would fling back and was on a hair trigger thing....
Any posts with accurate details would be nice....ive been googling with nothing i like.....
Thanks
Happy

I think what you're looking for is an automatic fisherman. That design is exactly what I think BeeGuy posted some time ago. I'll try to search and find it, but I never have much luck with that function. haha

made the same sort today, got 2 of my 5 walleye with it. only downside was when it went off and the bobber hit the rod I almost jumped out of my skin! I just put a minnow on the bottom with a splitshot to speed it down a bit quicker and worked like a charm. piece of bent coathanger and a bit of tipup line, cheap like borsht and simple to make

the bobber is supposed to keep the wire from going down the hole if the string comes off. but it makes a good loud alarm too :bad_boys_20: after a few times of slamming into the rod it will probably crack and sink along with the wire :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I just use mine with a wave buster float, just leave a few inches of slack line
