Just wanted to pose the question - what is your favorite type of tip up? and why?

I hate how long it takes to re-wind all that line on those silly little spools that come with most tip ups at the end of the day or when re-setting. It's a pain in the butt when it's cold and blowing.

I fish pro tipup, use your rod simple as it gets.

My favorite type are the Orange pre spooled 30lb tip-ups Wal-Mart sells, They are cheap , but I have never had one fail, I have had 2 Frabills Fail on me before, but the 11$ ones at Wal-Mart have always done the trick for me

This season I bought another new pink frabill for my wife to use when she came with me, And I don't mind this one at all, I think the new models must have the issue I was having fixed !

This kind...

I prefer these over the rod type because when its cold and blowing it may be a bit of a pain with the little spool but the hole NEVER freezes over. The rod style... every 10 mins.

My favorite tip up has always been a 7-8 foot long willow pole. Freeze the butt end into the ice or snow and leave long all the way to the top. Cut top off near end and spilt the end. insert line. I use a spool of line beside the tip-up. A willow is extremely sensitive and gives just enough to keep tension on the line. Really easy and fast to reset. Just put the line in the split end. A willow is good visually too because you can see the willow react to the lightest pickups.

I like my automatic fisherman :) have only used it once and have yet to catch anything on it yet, but the fact it sets the hook for you, and you can reel the fish in on a rod is pretty cool. the only problem like someone else mentioned is the hole freezing over...
