Been living up here since may and I love the area. Was finally able to get out for a day of fishing and also able to mark off one more species on my list of species. Was quite windy out but was still gorgeous out. Hit the point off the provincial park and was extremely slow. Only landed the one today but was a nice day out!

How did everyone else do? Seemed to be pretty slow day for everyone out there

Congrats, nice fish.
My buddy and I were out yesterday and did quite well. I landed 11, lost 6 and missed 8 or 9. We got 2 keepers, biggest was 85cm the other 77cm.
They are in the smoker right now.

Without some sort of electronics you are just washing yours hooks. Yesterday I would have been skunked without it.

Yeah super slow today fished off Saskatchewan alberta border. Tons of fish around hooks down and two on ice in first five minutes one 76cm one small one. They hit jaw jacker six times but got off before I got there. Lost four light bites then and caught the last one at 2pm. That was my only of day around 60cm. That's it for 6 people. Terrible fishing tried everything. Saw tons on the camera picking up smelts off the bottom and ignoring hook. Lots of trucks out didn't see anyone else pull a fish. Got ugly out there later left at 3pm.

I was out in French bay with fam and only managed one as well. Had one get off first time I dropped the hook down and then caught one five minutes later. Thought it was going to be good day but after that the fish were just looking at the hooks. I could get them following the hooks up and down the whole water column but couldn't get them to commit.

8" crack down the center of the lake.. opened up saturday with all this warm weather.. was hitting slush around it on skidoo. Be careful for you truck driving folks... Also going faster on the ice is alot more dangerous then slow. Saw some idiots doing like 80 k on the ice on saturday. Should tune into "Ice Road Truckers" and learn how to drive on ice.

So I should bring some plywood to build a ramp so I can jump it in my welding truck.

Thanks for the information guys. How thick is the ice now ?

Off provincial park I found about 20 inches of solid black ice, in front of the marina I found it a little thinner (16 inches or so I'd guess)

Tough today. I managed 3 and two buddies only one. We went about 4 miles east of Garnet. Ice is only 12-13 inches. Some water on the ice , cracks , etc. Saw lots of fish but they wouldn't open their mouths. Two I got were just under the ice , one on bottom. They would not chase anything. Hopefully it picks up when the weather stabilizes.

Flashers are great for all fishing IMO but real fun laker fishing!!!
I had to send my Marcum in for a warranty fix the other day and it didn't get back in time before I went out last weekend must admit I was pretty ****ed to not have my flasher and go "old school"....once you have one you cant fish without.
Its like boat fishing without a sounder.

went out on the 21, the morning was slow and the lakers would only chase up to 10 feet from bottom and then lose interest. then at noon it picked up. Did not mark a lot of fish but what came in would generally bite, the key was to move around a lot. best luck was at 60 to 70 feet. On slow days it would be next to impossible to catch with out a sonar.

I'm just west of Cold lk working right now , +4 here too. One note on my day , I did not mark any bait out deeper. I usually mark lots of big bait balls going through.

Been out 3 time this month and never seen any bait fish either.
Seen a lot last season.

what's the trail out from the PP like right now? Big mess like last year, or is there less snow? From the pictures it looks like considerably less. There were days when I wished I had either chains or a sled.

Very minimal snow on the lake. What there is for snow is all frozen and can pretty well drive on top of.

My friend in Cold Lake checked out the ice for me this evening. Said 20" of black ice a little slushy in a couple spots from snow melting in the warm weather but could drive a car on. Heading out tomorrow off the PP will be in a 2014 White Sierra crew cab in a Eskimo fatfish come say hi.

I want to pull up a lake trout so bad! 3rd week of feb. I've just decided. Come hell or high water. I'll paddle out in a canoe on the flood water if I have to.
