It is a shame them guys did not even try to land it. They have a 10" hole should be no issue. They did not even try just went right to the gaff. Gaffs should be outlawed Canada wide with the exception of salt waterfishing. Such a shame. Nice laker however.

I heard that was in attitkokan ontario. .. looks like its 25lbs or so. A 40 inch lake with 20 girth only goes 20lbs... nothing to change boxers about

Nice fish for sure, but not even close to a world record as the title says

I seen this on my facebook, and thought the same thing, he brags about his fishing skills and then Gaffs the fish ?????? :argue2:

Hey Speckle55 what is the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame ice fishing catch and release world record?

Their fish registered in at 43.75 inches long. In the news article it said "The world record for ice fishing "catch-and-release lake trout is 46 inches"

That fish wasn't being put back in the hole regardless so him using the gaff really shouldn't be an issue at all.......as long as its legal to do so. I grew up in Ontario and never saw the need to use 1 but its legal there still i believe...don't agree with using them. I do agree that in a 10 inch hole he should have been able to get it in without it....looks to be about 25 lbs to me.

I though I heard him say something about Ear Falls in the video. If that's true it would make it Lac Seul.

Your right, not a mosnster but a very nice fish none the less.

Nice laker looks like about 25 pounds Note it was gaffed in bottom underside of mouth not into body so it could have been released if they had wanted but doesn't appear that was their intent .

Very anti-climatic when you see a 25-30lb laker come up a hole after reading "near world record lake trout".

I'm pretty sure the world record is 76lbs ............ so ........... yeah .......... not even close

43" .... YEAH .....not unless the guy is 7'-8" tall ........lol

Nevertheless, a really nice laker ............

Nice fish but it gets tiring with all the you tube "world record" videos.

Maybe it was a brook trout...

If gaffs are illegal in Alberta then why does canadian tire sell them

Because you might go fishing to BC, Sask, etc. Not to mention the fact that allot of store stocking decisions are made in Ont. not Alberta.

just watched this without sound. (grandson watching scooby). not sure what that angler said to upset so many posters but i would sure be happy to catch a monster like that.
i also don't see anything wrong with using a treble hook or even a gaff if it's legal.

Ya nice laker regardless, but no show stopper. I always wonder if people actually measure and weigh fish or just guess. See some pretty outrageous claims with pictures, but I do know angle, lighting etc can make a huge difference on a picture.

Been hesitant to post this, but here is my biggest laker ever, caught this fall in MB. It was measured in a cradle in the water and then quickly weighed (new spring scale) while in the cradle and out for a few quick pictures before being released, where it quickly swam away. I am 6'2" - 250lbs, fairly bundled up as it is cool on the water mid October in MB.

So what do you guys think it weighed/measured(inches)? Unfortunately I didnt measure its girth.

Will post its actual weight/length after a few guesses. It's no legend, but pretty decent for a rookie laker angler.

My guess ....

Lake Athapapasku, just off of bird $#!t island, tolling at 2.2, in 120', with the rigger down 50', with a oil slick flasher, bead chain, and a 5" cop car apex.

Your line is 40lb powerpro. You used a 40lb maxima fluorocarbon leader and berkley coast lock swivel snaps size 5.

oh yeah ..... the fish ......... I'd say she is mid 30's

Nice Fish !!!!!!!

lmfao! Well unfortunately the only part you got correct was the lb test of my floor leader. Oh and I was trolling.

Clearwater Lake, 30lb PowerPro, Rapala X-Rap shallow black/silver holographic, 18ft of water.

Any more size guesses?

Also, it weighed less than I thought it was going to.
Still need to check scale for accuracy.

Ya sorry, I clicked on the wrong one to quote.

Thanks, was by far the biggest fish of the trip. Should have been there a week earlier when all the big girls were still shallow, and it wasn't a north wind with rain and snow. Was worth it just to catch that one fish though.

So...... I never stretch my measurements or try to get an extra 1/4 inch out of it, it was dead on 41". Spring scale said it weighed 25 lbs. Like I said I still need to check the scales accuracy, as I guessed it was closer to 28lbs. Either way it was awesome!

My dad also caught his personal best pike on our first day. 43", I lifted it out of the net so dad just told me to hang on while our friend took some pictures.
